Cubase AI page shows Windows 7 is compatible.

    http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/steinberg_yamaha/cubase_ai.html

This doesn't say anything about the "native 32 and 64 bit" versions - so maybe the issue is 64-bit. Should be able to run 32-bit, though.

    Other requirements are shown on-page.

For older versions of Cubase AI (5 and 4) - there's a different legacy compatibility page. Shouldn't affect you since you're using a later version, but here's the page: https://www.steinberg.net/nc/en/support/knowledgebase_new/show_details/kb_show/windows-7-information-on-compatibility-with-steinberg-products.html

Back to the main AI product page:
The compatibility list doesn't show Windows 10 (does show win 7 and 8)- so I'd say you should be OK.

The download page for Cubase AI version 8 does show Windows 7 Windows 8 and Windows 10 as compatible.

    http://www.steinberg.net/index.php?id=downloads_cubase_ai_8&L=1

I see no issues for Windows 7 in the release notes.

When you registered your copy of Cubase AI8, you created a MySteinberg Account. Log in to your account, Drop them an email directly - they will get you up and running and can deal with your computer setup issues.

    Hi Natalini,

I had the same problem (and the same windows/computer setup).
From Steinberg I recieved these answers:

    1) Please excuse for the very late reply! What is your Audio device? If you have not already done it, I suggest of downloading latest audio device's driver and firmaware firmware as well as Cubase AI 8.0.40 update and latest eLicenser Control Center version which are available at links below:

    http://www.steinberg.net/index.php?id=downloads_cubase_ai_8&L=1

    http://www.elicenser.net/en/latest_downloads.html

Afterwards let you check whether the right ASIO driver for your soundcard is selected under "Devices" > "Device setup". On the left side of the "Device setup" window, choose the ASIO driver you selected (entry below "VST Audio System). You ought to click on "Control Panel" to open up the driver settings, on the right side. This should provide you with the possibility to change the buffer size and therewith influence the latency.

You ought to go on the manufacturer's website in order to find latest audio device's driver version.

You should also check whether the in- and outputs of the bus system are set correctly under "Devices" > VST Connections".
These settings might change when choosing a different ASIO driver.

In order to setting up a driver for audio output, you should watch the tutorial video which is available at link below
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqH-fZfK038

    Furhte details are here available:

    Best Regards

And when all of this didn't work either:

    2) You should contact the Yamaha technical support in this case.
    Best Regards

So, despite the effort it didn't bring me anywhere.

    Then I contacted Yamaha Netherlands.
They didn't even answer at all !!!!!!

But what they did (secretly, without notifying) is changing the version of the driver.
It appeared that the driver on the local website was not updated and an old one. (YSUB_V198_Win)
When they changed it to YSUB_V199_Win, the problem was over.

    So verify the number 199.

    steinberg support is too busy!..
i will check the driver and asio setting, thanks a lot

also possible, i think the issue should be that i have to download the sp1 pack but update failed so i am downloading the repair tool from windows as it is a wellknown issue of W7, 500mb and it is not sure that works !
thank you yamaha for made a such nice synth but completely dependant on an external computer . stupid . big waste of time for me.

windows fix does not solve the sp1 update issue, i think i have just to give up about cubase in order to continue the montage journey, the driver is 1.99 and the sound card is an internal RME adat. i have to say that i dont understand Jan your issue with the usb driver ? i means i can open Ableton live even if there is no audio driver, it will tell me to choose one . and how this could fix the problem ? you too you was not able even to open the cubase program ?

Do you start Cubase as an administrator?
    Right-click: Run as ...

    Just a data point

    You NEED WINDOWS AERO enabled!

When I got the Montage 7 first thing I did was load Cubase 8 AI on my Win 7 64 for grins and found out then that you MUST have Windows Aero running - it WILL NOT load/run without Windows Aero enabled.

Because I have other, non-DAW, SW that I use for my consulting work and that SW (which puts money in my pocket) conflicts with Windows Aero I don't keep Aero enabled (on a three monitor system the setting/resetting of displays due to Aero on-off is a PITA) so I simply uninstalled Cubase AI. Besides I have used another DAW since DOS days - I keep trying Cubase but ....there is always some reason, like this one, that I remove it

I haven't gotten around to re-installing/re-trying on my Win 10 boot drive yet (one of these days) since I still mainly boot into my Win 7 HDD

Again just another thing to look at

    Good Luck
