I've had this problem for a a few weeks now and it's absolutely baffling me. The modulation wheel on my Yamaha MM8 is adjusting both the modulation AND the keyboard's volume. I have no idea how this happened as I've had this keyboard since '09 and this problem only recently started. I've searched through the manual and across the internet and can't seem to find a solution to turn it back to modulation-only.

Any guidance to help me solve this issue would be immensely appreciated. Thanks!

Make sure you are not connected to any external devices via USB or via MIDI - this will eliminate the possibility of MIDI data conflicting with data from your instrument.

If that does not cure the issue, make sure you SAVE any data to a USB stick (see page 69 for details) before performing a factory reset.

The Factory Reset will clear the memory and return the MM8 to initial settings.

Power down the MM8.
Hold down the highest key while powering on the instrument... this will Clear the memory and reset the MM8.

If this does not fix the issue, please find and visit an authorized Yamaha Service Center.

Thank you for your response. I had already tried a Factory Reset and had no luck. The keyboard is also not connected to anything external for MIDI use. Unfortunately, the issue still occurs.

I frequently connect the keyboard to Logic Studio Pro for MIDI use. Is it possible that a setting alteration in Logic changed the functionality of the keyboard? Even when it's not connected and after a factory reset?

Your guidance is very much appreciated!

No, not possible.
Locate an authorized Yamaha Service Center.
