I have a Yamaha Motif XS8 synthesiser. When I purchased many years ago the Yamaha S80 (brilliant by the way) it came with software to actually use waveforms to make up voices like playing around with LFO and that sort of thing. I'd like to do this on my Motif XS8 and need the right program to run so I can use waveforms to makes up special effect voices for a project I'm currently working on. I had fun doing this for the S80 but can't work out how to do it using my current synth. Do you need to update the firmware on the Motif XS8 to do this? How do you do this? Where is the application for playing around with waveforms and so on to make your own sounds based on the waveforms already stored in the synthesiser? Many thanks.

The Yamaha S80 (1999) came with software probably on a disk, the Motif XS (2007) also came with free software, but you’ll need to download (more people have internet access now, so it keeps cost down when providing ‘free’ software (free is always a user-perspective term). It’s free to download.
Navigate to the global Yamaha portal (Yamaha.com) choose your country and seek out “Synthesizers & Music Production” products.
Find the DOWNLOAD link on the top of the page. Type in your model “MOTIF XS”...
All the items for the Motif XS will appear.
You’ll need to download and install the Editor, and the Driver for your computer type and operating system.
The Editor is the “Yamaha Motif XS Editor Standalone/VST”
Yes, you need to have the latest Motif XS firmware which should be on the same list.

hello again. Looks like there are so many download options in this website. Can you tell me which is the most recent editor and firmware update for the Motif XS and also if I can use this in Cubase 8 Pro? Thanks!

All downloads concerning the Motif XS can be found on your regional Yamaha website.
Head over to Yamaha.com, select your country, navigate to the Music area, specifically, the “Synthesizers and Music Production Tools” area; there you’ll find a clickable link to the “Downloads” area; type in “Motif XS”... this will return all the downloads for the Motif XS.
