Hi folks. I've installed a flash Memory in my Motif XF6, but today I turned on the keyboard and appeared this message: "New Flash Memory Module. Please load waveform data." So, the voices that work with the samplers doesn't sound, but only present voices. What's happening with my flash memory? How can I solve this?

Navigate to the Flash screen and take a look.

Press [UTILITY]
Press [F6] FLASH
You can view the contents (Waveform List) and details (Board size /Free size) of "FL1" or "FL2" from this screen.

What does each report?

You should see a list of Waveforms that you have installed to your Board(s).
The right side of the screen will let you know the size of the board currently in the slot and the amount of free memory on that board.

If it appears that data occupies the Board (due to the memory size used) but the names do not appear on the list, any ALL data or ALL VOICE file that you saved to a USB stick will contain your Waveform List. You simply load the file using the load option:
FLx > FLx without samples

This will restore the Waveform List that addresses the samples (already) installed on the Flash Board.
The Waveform List is the (smaller) data that organizes the (larger) Samples, which is the actual audio data and can be huge in size.

If your Waveform List has disappeared only a file that YOU have made with *this* Motif XF will have your "Waveform List". Every time you SAVE, the file backs up your Waveform List... It will only back up the larger samples if you set SAVE option to "with sample". But it always backs up your Waveform List. Find a file you've made... you load "without sample" - which in effect means load the Voice data, load the Waveform List but do not load the samples because they are already installed on my Flash Board.

If your Flash Boards report they are empty, then you have lost the data installed on the Boards.

So, I had some waveforms installed on my flash memory before. I turned on and turned out my Motif XF with no problem. Each time I turned on my keyboard, I had my samplers with correspondent voices. But last time, when I turned on, it simply disappeared. So, I pressed Utility and F6 flash, the flash Memory wasn't with waveform list, but showed the memory size used. I played my voices, but no sound. My conclusion: I think I lost all my waveforms and unfortunately I didn't have a backup. I will have to format it, :(

If you did not make any files, we *know* for sure you have lost your data.

There are two kinds of technology users: those who make backups and those that eventually have catastrophes. Had you made a file you would have recovered in about 45 seconds. For the future - anytime you add samples to your Flash Board you must make a file to document that data. This is because the memory is "dynamic" - this means the audio data is installed in the lowest numbered empty location. Nothing on the FLASH BOARD is ever overwritten... this means that your Flash Board and the order in which you install data can and will be quite unique. After all, the whole purpose of the Flash Board is for you to select the data that you find useful. You are building a customized Wave ROM - a rewrite-able customize-able Wave ROM, but one that will be unique to your MOXF!

There are two type of backup files:
1) those stored "with Samples"
2) those stored "without Samples"
In both cases the Waveform List is backed up. The Waveform List is the smaller data that organizes the sampled audio - it is the catalog of where the load process has placed the data. The Samples are the larger data that takes so long to move around, it is what takes so much time to load and save (because of the sheer SIZE of the data).
>> _ So you make a backup with the SAVE OPTION (lower left of the FILE screen) set to "with Samples" when you are making a long term backup ARCHIVE File - make one anytime you add or remove data from your FLASH BOARD.
>> _ You set the SAVE OPTION to "without Samples" when you just quickly want to back up some song, or pattern, or user Voice, or Performance that you have created - for everyday use.

All your Files will have a documentation of your customized Waveform List (think of the Waveform List as the information your MOXF uses to find which VOICE goes with which set of Sampled audio)! It does not have to have the actual audio data, just the information about where to find it.

Hope that helps!
