Does anyone have experience with the wheeled Yamaha soft cases for MODX 8 or MODX M8 compared to Gator GK-88 in terms of any additional robustness on sidewalls? The GK-88 always seem to develop zipper issues and I'm thinking of switching to Yamaha case, but would like to get an opinion from someone who has had both or the Yamaha one for their experience with it.
No experience with the Yamaha cases but I've had my heavy Montage 7 taking trips once or twice a week in a Gator G-PG-76 case since 2016. Zippers are still fine.
The MODX would present significantly less weight even at the 88 key level.
I too would like to hear about how the Yamaha cases have held up over time.
Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R
For anyone else who might be considering both Gator and Yamaha cases, I ended up purchasing both to compare.
The Yamaha soft case with wheels is indeed much lighter and a bit smaller and does not have the same structural support as the gator case. Whether it is protective enough is a matter of your individual "use case". For me, my MODX M8 goes from house to car to gig and back to house. I decided to keep the Yamaha case since it is a bit easier for me to lift in and out of trunk of car. I had the gator for years with my older modx, but eventually the zippers gave out.
Thanks for the update. The mode of travel is certainly a consideration. If flying you don't have any control in how baggage handlers will move your case around. And zippers can come open when a case is jostled about.
