Controlling element levels on MODX M

Is it possible to use the sliders to adjust the levels of elements beyond the first 8? I tried following the instructions in this video, which show how it is done on the Montage M, but it doesn't seem to work on the MODX M. Maybe I'm just missing something. Has anyone been successful at this?

We can't speak to the Modx M. But on the Montage M8X, as in the video, you have to have a higher numbered element selected on the main screen. Then the group of 8 that element belongs to can be controlled with the faders. And, on the M8X the buttons under the faders can also be used to mute/solo the higher-numbered elements.

Another poster reported that Yamaha removed a Modx M button so you can't solo and keyboard control aren't available. P.18 of the doc seems to confirm that.

The Modx M OS version is a ways behind the Montage M OS version but Blake has publicly said there will be an OS update around January NAMM that will get the OS current for both instruments.

So if the process in the video doesn't work for you it could be the older OS version the Modx M is using. It didn't work on the Montage M either when it was first released and then the OS update fixed it.

Interesting.  MODX download pages do not have any HTML forms of the docs anymore.  The one thing they were good for was for pointing to the pictures but I guess that was "dangerous" too because Yamaha yanks files when new versions come out and would break links.

To the left of the sliders is a Part/Element/Op/Osc button.  Make sure it is set to Element/Op/Osc and not Part.  Same as before with the different slider modes.

Maybe you're already doing this but I haven't looked at the video to see what it says to do.

Of course this is good for 1-8.  I haven't dug into the motion control stuff to see if the destinations can be elements 9-128 (or I forgot).

Yes, 1-8 are no issue. The question is about using the sliders for elements beyond the first 8. The video shows that, once you manually select 9 as shown here...

...the faders control 9-16; if you manually select 17, the faders control 17-24, and so on. But this process is not working for me on the MODX M. I couldn't find any way for the sliders to control any element levels beyond the first 8.

Could be the older OS version on the Modx M. Keep piling on the IdeaScale and 'Contact Us' reports as you discover those things. May not help much but at least it won't hurt.

They shot themselves in the foot with that whole 'extended element' thing even on the Montage M models. There still isn't a way to access the extended elements on the sub-display even though the sliders and buttons now work as in the video.

And it's a pain to have to manually select a higher element using a drop-down just to be able to use the panel sliders/buttons.

They need to add [SHIFT][[EL/OP/OSC] level functionality to cycle through groups of 8 elements or something. Workaround are sometimes a b*^th!

Hi AnotherScott, thank you for sharing my Moessieurs video link on that topic, most of my Mobtage M topic videos work with MODX M, but not all, this one doesn't work on MODX M even with the OS 1.10.

Perhaps it will available on the next OS to come, we need to wait and see, by awaiting, you can check if the idea is already post in ideascale, vote for it if it is, or create the idea if it's not already post, have a nice sunday.

@AnotherScott - can you confirm whether the latest OS 3.0 Modx M update fixed this issue?

The hypothesis was that the issue was due to the OS version at the time of posting didn't include all of the functionality needed to deal with higher numbered elements.

I'd be curious to know this as well. I ended up not keeping my MODX M (I've still got my original MODX). But I haven't ruled out giving the MODX M another go, esp. as some of my concerns with it might get addressed.

Yes, you can control all the elements with the 8 sliders in banks of 8. As already stated, if you select 9 you get 9-16, select 17 you get 17-24 etc. This is with the current V3 FW.

Thanks for affirming that. The assumption was that with the hype about the OS 3 for the Modx M bringing into line with the Montage M OS that the problem would have been fixed.

But the only way to know for sure is to actually test it on the instrument.

Good to know!

I didnt even realise it could do that until I tried last night. I did wonder how to speed up using the other elements, so glad this thread was started.
