although i have the MODX+ for 6 months, i didn't used it on gigs for several reasons (waiting for my MODX m though)
i have 2 questions
1: how to select a category without changing the actual sound until i select it ?
in category mode, right now when for example i play piano, and i select guitar category, it changes the sound to the first guitar sound.
i want it to not change sound when select category until i select an actual sound preset
2:coming from Motif ES and MOXF, there it was different state of mind, it had a sound, and performance mode, and in MODX some times its a mess, i select a preset and I'm not sure what's gonna be there, a sound, a split performance, arpeggiator etc...(recently i found the attribute option which filters the options and it can help)
I'm trying to used to the live set idea, but still stock on Motif "mind"
Have you tried using the category button on the right side of the front panel? Don't know if that changes the performance or not.
On the Montage M8X the grid of category buttons or the category grid on the screen both change the actual performance. Yamaha's newer instruments typically don't have a 'mode' button that would let you stay in search 'mode' until you select something.
It works differently if you use SHIFT then category search because now you are in 'part' search and the assumption is that you want to add a part to the current performance - so it doesn't switch performances on you.
CAVEAT - the info above is based on a Montage M8X - it may, or may not, be the same on your instrument but it is something to try.
Once you select a category or sub category it changes the Performance. According to Bad Mister you have to leave the categories set to "all'. You can change the filters and bank and sort order without changing. And you can page around without selecting.
I came from MO6 myself. I was accustomed to pressing 3 buttons to get to everything PRE1 then A then 8. And yes there's Voice vs Performance mode.
Right now most of the arpeggio-ish Performances are going to be more than one Part since drums are on one Part and bass on another and synth or other instruments on another. Therefore, the filtering by Single Part Performances is probably the best way to get the non arpeggio-ish sounds. There are many non arpeggio Parts with than one Part but this is a reasonable way to find most of them.

shift + category just switching Banks like pressing Category Button in a row

was hoping for a settings that can be changed.. hope they will update the system to have the option to change categories without changing the performance.
is there a "feature request" section in the forum for MODX?
