This video might help

Or this article - https://yamahasynth.com/community/modx-series-synthesizers/how-do-i-setup-rotary-speed-control-on-the-modx-via-a-footswitch/

Basically you need to connect your pedal to the foot switch jack on the back. The use Mod/Control->Control Assign to select the pedal as the source and the rotary speed of the insert effect as the destination.

Hi everyone,

I've bought a MODX M6 and I want to control the Leslie effect with a footswitch. Can someone explain to me how to do that?

Kind regards, Renie

Previous suggestion is already good.

Somewhat off topic…or maybe tangential.  New to Yamaha (after 40 years with Kurzweil).  Haven’t gotten into organs yet.  Is the Yamaha Leslie effect any good or should I pick up a Vent?

Thanks!!!

The Leslie emulation has been evolving.  Last generation the YC improved the rotary speaker and this was added late into the last generation as the VCM rotary speaker effect.   Many have expressed that in terms of Yamaha's emulation that this VCM effect is an improvement over earlier rotary effects from Yamaha.

Still, offerings from other sources that focus more of their R&D on Leslie emulation are bound to be better.  I think how well the VCM rotary effect works for you is something to decide by personal experience.

LET OP: Organ moet altijd Part 1 zijn voor FS Assign!

Koppeling van de FS als een leslie start/stop is soms nogal ingewikkeld. Het basisidee is niet zo moeilijk:

  • Ga naar Mod/Control -> Control Assign.

  1. Ga naar [UTILITY] > Settings > MIDI I/O.
  2. Stel FS Assign (Foot Switch) in op 1 (Mod Wheel).

Everything below is from a search engine translation:

PLEASE NOTE: Organ must always be Part 1 for FS Assign!

Connecting the footswitch as a Leslie start/stop is sometimes quite complicated. The basic idea isn't that difficult:

Go to Mod/Control -> Control Assign.
Make sure the Display Filter is set to FootSwitch (tap 'Auto Select' and press your pedal).
Tap the [+] button (which should now be visible in the middle) to create a new destination.
Tap Destination and select: Effect -> Category -> Trem/Rtr and select VCM Rotary Sp Studio.
However, Yamaha doesn't have the same settings for every organ performance!!! The VCM Rotary Sp Studio is not always and everywhere available! So you might NOT be able to select it! Another option is:

Go to [UTILITY] > Settings > MIDI I/O.
Set FS Assign (Foot Switch) to 1 (Mod Wheel).
Now your footswitch acts as an on/off switch for the speed that normally goes through the Mod wheel.
Tip: The MODX M8 has the new VCM Rotary Speaker that is also in the Montage M. This sounds much more authentic than older effects, especially if you adjust the Drive and Mic Angle parameters a bit.

To clarify: it is the VCM Rotary effect, not the organ itself, that is only available on part 1. So it isn't the footswitch assign that must always be for part 1.

I'm sure what the poster meant is:
1. put the organ part as part 1
2. assign the VCM Rotary effect to the part 1 organ
3. assign the footswitch to the effect

Vent is much better, but more hassle to use with a MODX. I have a mini vent II and have no idea if I'll ever use it again, as I dont just use Organ sounds, or just one sound at a time. When I had my Fantom 06 I could send the Organs out to the Vent via the secondary set of outputs, in to the Vent and back in to the Fantom, so it never interfered with the main output. No way of doing that with a MODX.
