MoDX M and modx connect

Hello Modx geeks. I recently replaced my Modx 6 with a Modx M 7. Before selling the Modx, I saved some performances on my PC using Modx connect. However, it seems that the Modx Connect application does not “recognise” the M7 and I am unable to send the performances to the M7. Is there an incompatibility between Modx M and Modx Connect? Is there a trick to solve this problem? Thank you in advance.

Two options: 1) use the John Melas tools or 2) find a Modx and then use Modx Connect to load your performances.

Once you have the performances loaded you can either use the tools to load them onto your Modx M7 or you can create a user file which can be loaded by your Modx M7.

There is no 'connect' app for the M models as they have their own ESP software.

The John Melas tools can read user and library files and can then transfer the performances to your instrument or they can create a user file you can load.

The MODX/Montage tools (non-M) list importing X7B/X8B files which are the bulk dump files Connect saves off.

Too late, but ...

When replacing a keyboard I would always recommend having overlap.  I get this doesn't work out for everyone since the sale of one funds the purchase of another.  But it's best if you have both keyboards on hand before finally declaring the old one is no longer needed.   This would have shown that there's no easy way to deal with X[8,7]B files with the new keyboards where saving off Library, User, or even complete backup (X[7,8]A) files would do the trick.

If you can't have overlap, I would say always save backups of every file format you can.  Just in case software or hardware decides to only support one format or the other (Library AND User AND full backup AND connect bulk files for previous gen).   This way you'd have everything the keyboard could possibly produce as file backups.

Still, without overlap there may be a feature the new keyboard decided to abandon that you'll miss in the old keyboard.  Even if the new one has a lot of new and improved features - often good ideas are left behind.
