https://usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/synthesizers/modx/compatibility.html

I know, the above link is for MODX (not M) but it applies for the Motif XF portion.  For MODX M you would add compatibility with the Montage and MODX (past generations) X[7,8][A,U,L] files too.

First, do a complete backup of your MODX M if you have any data you would mind losing.

On your Motif you can save an X3A file which will backup all of your user Voices and Performances (and waveforms, etc).  Save the X3A file to a USB stick.  Then you should be able to load this from that USB stick into your M. (utility, contents, load).

That's a bare-bones description.

Use the 'Utility->Contents->Load' screen to load X3A, X3v, X3G and X3W Motif XF files.

How can I import my Motif XF user sounds into the MODX M?

Create one of the above files on your Motif XF, put it on a compatible usb thumb drive and then load it on the Modx M.

You can download the whole set of Motif XF presets here:

https://usa.yamaha.com/products/music_production/synthesizers/modx/downloads.html

See 'Other Downloads' at the bottom. The file is labeled 'MOTIF XF Performances for MONTAGE' but is compatible with the Montage and Modx M models.

Are you having trouble with a particular performance? If so, post the details.

It worked. Thank you Jason and Pete. Is there any way to get back all the user presets from the Motif XF? I find the Full Grand piano on the XF sounds better than the MODX M pianos as well as some other sounds that I am not finding on the MODX M

What 'user presets' do you mean?

You can download all the factory presets using the link provided earlier.

The ModxM can load user/library files created on the XF so if you have content on the XF create a user or library file.

Full Grand isn't a part of Motif XF's factory presets so you likely loaded this using a promotional pack.  Most promotional packs have incompatible data for the Montage/MODX line and won't load properly.  But since you loaded those into your Motif XF you should have the library files somewhere and those library formats may be supported by the MODX M although individual Voices/Performances may have waveforms that are not compatible.

So when I said "user presets" I actually meant the sounds I edited and stored in the user memory but I figured out how to get it back based on what you told me before. Thanks.

So Full Grand is actually Preset 001 or A01 on the Yamaha Motif XF but I found out recently that most of these XF sounds are included in the MODX M preset bank just at the bottom. Thanks again.

Glad to know you got it taken care of and didn't lose your hard work. Thanks for posting the update.

TIP: you may want to consider creating a Modx M user file to save your loaded Motif sounds in the proper format for future use.

Aha - you were referring to the 'Full Concert Grand'

So Full Grand is actually Preset 001 or A01 on the Yamaha Motif XF but I found out recently that most of these XF sounds are included in the MODX M preset bank just at the bottom.

The Modx M data list doc lists 'Full Concert Grand' on p.12 as performance 1481

I find the Full Grand piano on the XF sounds better than the MODX M pianos as well as some other sounds that I am not finding on the MODX M

Just FYI - it is possible that the Modx M version was updated to take advantage of the newer functionality of the M models. For example the CFX Concert perf is 4 parts using 18 elements on the old instruments but only uses one part on the M models since all 18 elements can be in one part.

So - if you really like the way it sounded on the Motif XF check out the Modx M version to see if it sounds the same. If not then, on the Motif XF load the perf and save it as a user performance and then load that user performance into your Modx M.

That way you can compare the programming to see what is different.

"Full Grand", if that's the complete name in your Motif XF, is a Motif ES voice.  The Full Concert Grand is not sonically the same.  Full Grand was a available to Motif XF on the 40th anniversary pack.

https://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/482453/

This is the promotional pack I was alluding to previously.  That pack may or not have compatible sample encoding but should claim compatibility by file extension.

You can find this voice online officially as a MOXF download which should be file extension compatible.

The [MOTIF ES] FullGrand perf won't play on a M8X.

The MOXF Premium Contents Pack zip download is about 1.8GB and contains 2 zip files

moxf_pcp-1_1.zip
moxf_pcp-2.zip

Part 1 has CCMK5 (Chick Corea), CS80MOXF (CS80) and EDMEXP (EDM)

Chick's Mark V Manual.pdf
CHICKMK5.X6A
Loading the Chick Corea Mark V sample voices to the MOXF.pdf

CS80MOXF.X6A
_XF_IKT_CS80_README MOXF.pdf
2 File(s) 495,522,156 bytes

Controller.pdf
EDMEXP.X6A
EDM_ARPS.X6G
reademe.pdf

Part 2 has INSPNAFL (Inspiration in a flash), UJVOX, ULTPNO (Ultimate Piano)

INSPFLSH.X6A
MOXF Inspiration DATA LIST.pdf
README.pdf

UJ Voices.jpg
UJ_VOICE.X6A

ULTPIANO.X6A
MOXF Readme.pdf

The FullGrand is in the UTLPIANO.X6A and although the file loads it has errors likely due to the waveform formats that were used.

So after load that perf won't play. You can get a note or two to sound sometimes depending on the velocity you use but it is totally useless.

As for the Chick Corea and Inspiration files - we did not load them and it is unknown whether these files are identical to similar files available from other sources.
