Nice presentation - it covers all the basics.

We have a few questions/issues though and present them here rather than on the youtube video page to avoid distracting other users from the main goal of the video

1. Selecting a new drum part - for a single key why not just use an 'Init Drum' part to avoid having arps and other configuration issues? In your video you suggest using 'Shift Song/Pattern'. The list that shows is for configured drum kits that will not only have most/all of the keys configured for different sounds but will also have arps and other config settings that may need to be undone for the single key programming.

In particular, as in your video, you may get arps that play automatically because the part 'Arp Switch' is ON and there are preassigned arps that need to be removed and/or turned off. In particular 'Arp Play Only' is Off for the Init Drum perf.

2. Using the split screen - @4:30 you cover splitting the keyboard - but in your video you actually destroy the part note range for part 4 which, as the video shows, is initially C3 to G8.

When you only create 1 split and put the other parts in the B range it changes the note range for part 4 to D1 to G8 as shown in the video at 5:20.

That new 'split' functionality is confusing users because the Montage M doesn't do 'splits' in the same way as other keyboards or arrangers. On the M the split screen modifies the note ranges of the parts to conform to the split boundaries.

But parts on the M can define their own boundaries (e.g. part 4) and those boundaries don't have to be contiguous with the note ranges of other parts.

We recommend our clients use EITHER the split screen or configure the note ranges manually but never use both.

Good job covering all of the params on the Osc/Tune screen and also the Filter settings. We haven't seen those covered by other videos but the starting values you get can, and often are, different depending on the drum kit you start with.

For this I would always use the Drum Init and I'd personally not use the split feature since I prefer to do lower level work rather than using higher level helpers that abstract what's going on under the hood.

That said, it would be instructive to see the two ways to do it and there probably isn't a lot of content that covers the split feature.

Yes - the split feature is a nice shortcut if you already have a selection of parts that haven't been configured for note ranges. It makes it easier to slot the parts in where you think you want them.

And if you add/replace a part later the split feature makes it easy to see where the note ranges are.

I think the biggest confusion for the user is that the split screen doesn't really show the actual part boundaries.

If you manually set boundaries and then use the SPLIT button the split screen will show the last screen configuration with a DONE button. That can lead you to think the screen is actually showing the part note ranges.

Whenever you press DONE on the split screen the part note ranges will get changed based on the screen config shown.

But then changing the screen config (without pressing DONE) or changing a part note range manually will get them out of sync again.

So the two main problems we find are 1) thinking the split screen is showing the actual part note ranges when it may not be and 2) pressing DONE on the split screen after you have already changed the part note ranges manually.

We find that using one or the other, but not both, seems to be the easiest way to avoid the problem.

Hi, thank you Pete for your detailled feedback, i use a drum kit not init to show also on other case how to use the rhythm pattern, how to manage the arp play only setting.

The init drum prevent that of course.

For the split, it's just to made quicker video and show the split function, in that case if i really needto add an intro to killer dance, i will use 2 split points the D1 and C3 of course.
