I just notice, "You should have minimum number of approved posts to be able edit your profile information." I don't know what the minimum number of posts is, but I don't want to do a lot of extraneous posts just to hide my email address.

If a mod reads this, can you please change my user name to Chris Duncan instead of my email address?

Hello,

You only entered an email when you signed up. If you add you name you have some options. I went ahead and just put your display name as Chris Duncan. Please contact synthesizers@yamaha.com and let me know if you have any additional questions. 

May be worth looking into if this can be improved to make it more clear or easier to sign in and have a differentiated public display name.  I see many more email addresses these days than with the previous system so there may be something that can be done.

I don't recall seeing an option to enter a name, but to Jason's point maybe it was there and I just missed it. Certainly wouldn't be the first mistake I've made.

Dealing with the same issue in 2026. I just signed up for an account and would love to participate in this forum, but would prefer that my display name is not the same as my real name or email address. Any tips?

Your display name is EM - that doesn't seem like a 'real name' or 'email address'.

Thanks. When it was awaiting moderation, the display name was my email address. I guess a mod changed it before letting it through. Thx!

Glad it was taken care of. 

When you create an account the display name, for some reason, defaults to the email address. You can change it but, as you discovered, the user normally won't know they need to change it or their email will be exposed until they do. 

This could be friendlier.   The way it worked last I checked provided a gold mine for spammers as they can monitor the board and collect emails of a targeted group as new users are added.  Hoping somehow a balance in privacy and potential for abuse (on both sides of the coin) can be achieved.

I also have the same problem- I would like my forum name to be "marzzz" and not my email address please.
