Each operator has an AEG on the Level tab

See p.143 of the reference doc -

https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/9/812529/montage_en_rm_b0.pdf

Create and post a user/library file (zip it up) if possible. Then we can load it on a Montage M8X and find the problem.

Hang in there - programming is doing it - we just have to find the right spot.

If all carriers, when soloed, have a swell then it is more likely that a control assign or effect is causing it.

I listened to each carrier separately, and they all share the undesirable swell.

Not picking on you but it is VERY important to be precise. You said 'each carrier' and algorithm 17 has four of them: ops 1, 2, 6 and 8.

But ops 1 and 8 don't have any modulators. So if you solo op 1 or 8 and still get a swell that swell will be caused by the op 8 AEG, a control assignment or a motion sequence.

An AEG envelope is moving (active) from the time you press a key until the decay/release stages end. A motion sequence is constantly looping. A control assign is generally static unless controlled by a motion sequence.

The AEGs don't follow the previous recommendation.  Attack level > Decay 1 level, Decay 2 level = 0, Release level =0.  Once you find those, dial that in.

And work.one carrier at first by zeroing out the levels of the others so you can readily hear the programming changes.

I wanted to thank everyone who offered suggestions. As suggested, reworking the patch from scratch did the trick. Combined with a renewed understanding of the Decay1 and Decay2 Levels, I was able to achieve what I had been trying to create.

And, sorry for my delay confirming that I had success.

Regards.

For closure would you mind posting the solution you found to your initial problem?

I have an FM-X voice that I programmed to decay to zero, a plucked-like sound. If I hold it long enough, the sound begins to swell until its volume is near maximum for each held voice. Despite inspection of all operators’ Levels, none appear to be set to cause the resultant swell after holding for a long time. Online AI has told me assuredly that there exists an overall AEG for FM-X voices. I think that I have once again been given incorrect information by online AI. I cannot find the AEG for FM-X in the interface, only envelopes for each FM operator and, of course the FEG.

Can SOMEONE please help me to find the source of this 'swell' envelope action after the completion of the Decay2 phase?

It would be useful to know how you went from the above to this:

As suggested, reworking the patch from scratch did the trick.

What did you determine was the initial cause of the 'swell' you were getting?

What changes did you make in the 'reworking the patch' to eliminate the swell?

This example is something we could all learn from if you would be kind enough to share how you went about solving it.
