I’ve had a MOXF6 for about a month now. Many years ago I used to produce my own music on a Yamaha QS300, and I got pretty advanced with programming and operating that synth. So when I sit down in front of the MOXF, I feel right at home. A lot of things look and feel very familiar to me.
The MOXF feels like a QS300 on some serious steroids. However, I’m really surprised and disappointed by how limited the options are for entering parameter values numerically.
If numerical value entry was possible on a synth as old as the QS300, why isn’t it possible on the MOXF, which is almost 20 years newer and incomparably more powerful? How is it that such an important feature as direct numerical parameter entry was left out?
I’m also wondering if there’s any way to instantly reset a parameter to its default value. For example, if I tweak a parameter with the knobs and then want to return it to its default setting, I have to dial it back manually, which gets pretty tedious. On the QS300, you could simply enter 00 using the numeric keypad and you were done.
Welcome to the forums!

Not that we are aware of. You would need to reload/reselect the voice and the result will be that ALL of the edits you made will get 'reset' to the saved values.
There are software editors for MOXF. Those may offer features you prefer over the onboard interface.

There's a Mac version too.
These are the no cost ones Yamaha gave away previously. There's also the paid Melas option.
Not really directly addressing your question but one alternative.

First off, thanks for chiming in and for the suggestions/workarounds!
Pete:
I know that changing the voice and then switching back resets the parameters to their default values, but the problem is that it resets ALL the parameters, not just one of them.
What I’m looking for is a way to keep some parameters as they are while resetting only the ones I want back to their defaults.
So yeah, I guess I’ll just have to get used to the fact that the MOXF doesn’t have this functionality.

TBH, years of stressful corporate work in front of a computer have left me with a pretty serious aversion to working at a monitor. I can usually manage about 15 minutes before I start feeling pretty awful.
But when I sit down at the MOXF, with that little display that’s so familiar to me from the QS300, I feel like I can finally breathe again.
I mean, with such an advanced music workstation as the MOXF, I’d expect some basic functionality that doesn’t depend on a computer.
I’ve had a DAW license for years, but it’s a completely different workflow. You have to fire up the computer, open the DAW, start a project, load your plugins, etc., before you can even get to the point of making music.
A hardware workstation, on the other hand, is pretty much ready to go right away and lets you capture an idea the moment inspiration hits. And it’s also much more inspiring to work that way.
Despite the small display, it doesn’t strain me at all. Quite the opposite, actually - I find it relaxing. And if you’ve got a good ear, you can make genuinely professional-sounding music entirely without a computer.
Sounds good. I used a MO6 as my daily driver with the LCD screen and preferred it to software because I always had the keyboard in front of me and never carried a computer to practice. Even in the studio it was just easier to keep plunking away at the function keys rather than change it up doing the computer thing.
