Hi all,
I was wondering if there is any way to control patch changes from an external source like a MacBook?
So here's a little explanation of my set up and why I want to do this:
- My set up is such that my MX61 is some distance away from my macbook, I have another separate MIDI controller that is closer to my macbook that I use to play the sounds on the MX61. Signal flow is as follows:
1) MIDI controller MIDI out to MacBook Logic Pro
2) MacBook Logic Pro MIDI out to MX61
3) MX61 Audio out to Audio Interface and back into Logic
- I'm looking for a solution to switch patches from my MacBook so that I don't have to physically get up and walk over to where my MX6 is, just to browse through libraries of voices and test them on the MX61. Is there such a thing?
Yes.
The MX61 data list shows MSB/LSB/PC combinations to send to your MX61 in order to recall any of the voices.
Here's the link: https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/8/328498/mx49mx61_en_dl_a0.pdf
What's cool about the MX data list is that it "spells out" exactly these three parameters (MSB, LSB, PC) for every voice. Not related to your question, but there's also a column for the polyphony impact - which is useful/interesting.

... also, I tried sending this link, but the system complained it was spam. It was the first help I found on MSB/LSB/PC with logic before I sent the apple link:
