Is it possible to transfer a MODX+ performance to a MODX M using Soundmondo? If yes, how?
No.

Welcome to the forum!
Soundmondo makes SysEx format data available and the M models use a format with 4 address bytes rather than the 3 address bytes used by previous Montage and Modx models.
The unofficial soundmondo mirror site may have the performance you want. If so you can download it from there and use the John Melas tools to import it into a format that you can then transfer to a Modx M.
Or you could find/borrow a Modx+ to sync with SoundMondo and then save the performance as a user/library file. That file could then be directly loaded by your Modx M.
There wasn't a huge conversion, but last generation Yamaha placed routines into Soundmondo to convert between MODX and Montage. There's no conversion routines in place between the M and non M models.
Could it be done (technical details aside)? At least from non M to M - yes. M is a superset. However, such a conversion is not implemented. Check to see if there's already an Ideascale entry for this and add your vote/comment to it or create the idea of it doesn't exist.
Can't really use the number of address bytes as a huge barrier given Yamaha has already provided a conversion from DX7 decades old SysEx to the original Montage/MODX (library or user file formats). Which are very different both engine implementations (FM-X is not a 1:1 with the various keyboards the converter supports) and file formats.
The expertise and capability is there. It's a choice not to have this available.

Can't imagine the cost/benefit ratio is in Yamaha's favor.
There are much more important things we would rather see Yamaha's resources being used on that would benefit Yamaha and their customers.
Users that have a Modx+, or have access to one, can easily create files that Modx M users can use. And those files won't have the limitations that SoundMondo still has (user waveforms/objects) despite repeated requests for resolution.

Well yes, and no. Not for yamaha. But for 3rd parties creating a mapping table between the different address formats for ALL of the possible parameters IS a 'huge barrier'.

Don't overlook the fact that it might be a VERY good choice.
The expertise and capability is there.
The big unknown is what would the effect be on the new products if Yamaha spent that 'expertise and capability' working on SoundMondo stuff rather than the numerous other 'deficiencies' already being reported in the various M models and ESP.
There is only so much 'baggage' from the past that you can afford to keep lugging around.

Thanks Pete. I could download the performance I want from the unofficial soundmondo mirror site, but I could not convert the syx file to transfer to my MODX M. John Melas tools for MODX M does not recognize Modx+ syx file. I tried the Yamaha FM converter, also not working.... Anyone knows how to convert syx files to a file format my MODX M could read?
I do not have access to a Modx+ by the way....
Use the Modx+ version of the tools and save the performance as a standard user (X8U) or library (X8L) file.
The M model can load either of those directly.

That would requires me buying another license just for that..... I just sent a message to one of the patch creator, maybe he can share the user file to me.
Without using Melas tools you can also convert starting with MODX (non M) Soundmondo ...
1) Find a MODX (non M) that you can connect to a device that (phone, tablet) that can reach Soundmondo. Maybe you can use your phone. Bring a cable that can connect this device to the MODX. What I'm thinking is go into a music store you know or find a friend with the old MODX. Bring a USB stick to save the file onto.
2) Soundmondo download to the MODX
3) [STORE] the Performance as a name you'll recognize
4) Save a library (X8L) file on the MODX. Onto the USB stick.
5) Load the MODX X8L library file onto your MODX M

I am not able to access a MODX, but was checking the MODX John Melas Tools, demo version for now, and have some questions:
- I was able to import the syx file into a Total Librarian performance, but when I edit that performance the Performance Editor has an empty performance, does that happen because is a demo version?
- In the Performance Editor I could not find any command to export/save to an .X8U file. Tried the "Save As" but got message "MODX is not connected!"
I am considering buying the MODX tools, but I need to be sure it will work for that task.
Demo can't save
