Hello - not being a musician, I don't know the term for a sound that cannot be played as a chord. There are many Pfs on Montage that will only sound the first note played - I notice this most frequently in sounds called 'leads' but that is by no means always the case. So what is the correct term please? More importantly, how do I stop it happening? I've played about with all kinds of settings and effects, but without success, although I assume it is a setting of some kind that can be undone? Thanks for any enlightenment ...

Hi Rod,

I believe you are referring to monophonic parts. This is a mode where only one note sounds at a time.

You can change to polyphonic by editing the part parameters:

Select the performance
Performance (Home) button
Select the part in the touchscreen
Edit button
Touch screen:
- Part Settings -> General -> Mono/Poly
- Select Polyphonic

Now you should be able to play multiple notes at a time for that part within the performance.

Hello Richard! Thank you thank you thank you!!! It was staring me in the face, and I didn't see it - I was searching for an obscure musical term that probably doesn't even exist! You've solved several annoying glitches I've had in my sound composition efforts, so in future when I carry out that simple procedure I will think of it as the 'Richard Procedure' ... back to Montage with a whole new battery of possibilities ...

It does present one problem though - if I upload any Pfs that contain a Part that has been Richarded (via Connect) then the Pf will not play properly on any Montage that does not have the Poly version of the Mono Part. Don't see any way around that.

Thanks again ...

Up top - below is primarily assuming you're not using anything other than preset waveforms (no library references, no user samples) ...

The performance has the setting mono vs. poly. When you generate your own X7B - you are NOT referencing other performances (like Motif). Motif had a structure where a performance pointed to VOICES. So if you had a modified (user) VOICE - and pointed to it with a PERFORMANCE - then it's possible that you would have to transfer both your user performance and user voice over to keep everything intact. With Montage - there's no voice mode. Everything is saved in your user performance. The user performance just points back to preset (or library/user) waveforms - which you do not "richardize". So there is no problem here. Upload your X7B and it will sound the same unless you do something like point to non-preset-Waveforms (libraries/custom user).

All of your settings are documented in the X7B including any PART you change from mono to poly.

As a reminder - Montage connect can create X7B files from your currently loaded / edited performance (aka edit buffer).

Hello Jason - Ah! I think I follow you - so 'Mono/Poly' is a setting, and has no effect on the waveform per se - my X7B file will carry the changed settings so that the Pf will indeed play correctly. Thanks! I'm having to comb through my created Pfs - I found an error in my filing system that allowed a few non-Montage Pfs to escape into the wild, so that at least two of my Connect X7B files won''t play correctly - these are AMP Charity and AMP Gunmetal. I've rebuilt both correctly, but haven't got round to uploading them yet as I'm still checking through the others.
