Hi all. I'm trying to control my MX49 with my CP33 via a USB cable, but I'm generally new to the ins and outs of MIDI (no pun). I believe I'm looking to keep the MX49 under local control, I really just want to take advantage of the CP33's full size keyboard and hammer action. I've attached the units with a USB cable but have no idea where to go from there (e.g., MX49 and/or CP33 menu commands). I get an odd display of "CC#--" on my MX49 and then I'm stuck. Any direction here or a link to an appropriate tutorial would be outstanding. Thanks in advance!

In general, the USB (To Host) port on your keyboards is to connect them to a computer. In the case of the MX, it's able to communicate both MIDI and audio to the computer, the CP33 transfers MIDI only.

In order to connect your CP33 to control your MX, the simplest solution is connect the MIDI OUT of the CP to the MIDI IN on the back panel of the MX using a standard 5-pin MIDI cable.

Please see the MX Owner's Manual starting on page 37 "Connecting an External MIDI Instrument".

Earlier Yamaha synths were not USB MIDI class compliant, and class compliance is needed to support direct connection between instruments with USB...but the new MX49/61 V2 is class compliant - right, Bad Mister? If so, will a new version of the MX system software be released to upgrade earlier MX49/61 instruments so that they are USB MIDI class compliant? Thanks...
