Hi guys,

I am having difficulty at gigs, to get to particular performances. I create a performance for every tune we play, and store them in the "live set" area. It's very cumbersome to scroll thru each page to find the upcoming song so that I don't delay starting the tune. (when people are dancing they want to continue as soon as possible when a song ends. Is there a way that I can arrange my performances based on our set list?
As always I thank you for all the help I obtain from the gurus here.

You can do this. And there was a time when I did this for only bigger gigs where we would have the most demand for quick tune changes (and it would matter more either way). I don't do this anymore because it takes a lot of time and I've, instead, organized the songs in a way where I can memorize the page numbers of everything. Depending on your number of pages this may be difficult or impractical (enough to put in the work to reorganize every band setlist order change).

Use Live Set swap. Select the Live Set slot you want to move (so the slot is highlighted), then press the "Swap" button at the bottom, then change the Live Set page (if necessary) and touch a Live Set slot where you want to move the first Performance you selected. Swap will exchange the two Performance locations with each other in Live Set.

Copy is also available - but Swap gets more done in one operation and makes sure you don't overwrite anything.

Swap/Copy/Delete are covered near the end of this short video:

A performance in the live set area will be in whatever BANK, PAGE and SLOT you put it in.

All you need to do is put your performances in the order you want them in.

Bad Mister wrote an excellent article showing users all about Live Sets and how to use them:
https://yamahasynth.com/learn/modx/mastering-modx-performance-basics-2

A “Live Set” is designed to give you access to your MODX configurations when you are performing, thus the name, LIVE SET. Let's get started...
. . .
LIVE SET can be used to organize your sounds for performing on stage. Each time you increment to a new “Live Set” slot you are recalling (re-patching) Insertion Effects for the various Parts, scores of oscillators, filters, amplifiers, envelope generators, etc. Each slot can be a whole set's worth of sounds, or it could be just a single setup among several others for a single composition.
. . .

You may also be interested to read that article about using SSS (seamless sound switching) to transition between performances and using a foot switch to advance from the current live set entry to the next one.

You may be wondering how many User Live Sets are available. You have eight BANKs containing USER 1-8. Each of the eight BANKs has 16 PAGES, and each PAGE has 16 Slots. That’s 2048 Live Set slots. You can organize your data as you see fit. Each BANK could represent a different band, if you happen to play in multiple situations.

Your current User “LIVE SETS” are stored in their own MODX Folder. The Live Set is also placed in Read Only Memory (as a part of the data that makes up a LIBRARY).

And don't forget that you can create your own libraries that can also contain their own Live Sets. So you could create a library for each band and load several libraries at once. Then on the Live Set screen just select the bank you want to use: either one of the user banks or one of the library banks.

Of course you can put the same performance into more than one bank, page or slot if you want.

Hi Jason, Thank you. I thought of this and actually this is most likely what I'll end up doing the night before a gig.
I was hoping I could some how arrange the performances in a user Library? I can't seem to find enough info on that so.... Swap it is!
Thanks for the tip!

Bad Mister thank you. I'm not sure I know how to take a performance and put it into a Library. This sounds like a perfect situation as I am in 3 bands and all 3 play different tunes for the most part. So far all the performances I have created have the songs name as the performance and stored to "Live Set". If I move say 30 tunes/performances to a live set would I be able to rearrange for ease of selection?

You place all of your User Performances and Live Set too into a Library by creating a library.

[UTILITY] "Content" -> "Store/Save" then tap on content type and change to Library. Then press "Save As New File" and name your library according to how you want it to show up in your Library list. Once the library is created, you would then use [UTILITY] "Content" -> "Load" to load your created library file . This will place the content you saved from the user bank to the first free library slot. Now your Performances are both in a Library and in your User area. You can initialize your user area only. Before doing so, it would probably be a good idea to backup to prevent data loss if you mess up.

Now everything that was in your user bank is now in a library slot and you cleaned up the user bank so it is empty.

It's worth noting, there's not a way (unfortunately) to tell MODX to only place certain Performances in a Library. EVERYTHING in your User area will be saved to a Library when using MODX. If you want a better way to manage this, then consider investing in the John Melas tools which allows for doing some of this offline with more precision.

You don't have to do that -- now I imagine your Library slot has all of your bands Performances because I take it today your user area contains tunes for all the bands you are in. If this is true - then would want to create a library with only the tunes from a single band. You can do this - it's just a bit of work.

With your master song list (all bands) loaded into a Library slot (say the library is called "ALL BANDS" ) use [UTILITY] then pick "Content" -> "Library Import". Select the folder of your "ALL BANDS" library then check off all of the tunes that are for some specific band. When you execute the library import command, this will copy all of your checked Performances in the library (ALL BANDS) and only copy those you checked into the User bank. Next, make sure the USER area Live Set reflects only the songs for the band you just copied to the user area. This will establish your Live Set for the library later when you install the library.

From here, you can store/save a Library (like you did for "ALL BANDS" ) and name this maybe the name of the band when saving the Library. Rinse and repeat for the other bands.

Then, last - after covering all the tunes, you can delete the ALL BANDS library and Load all of the other libraries you just created (one for each band).

Please note that Library content cannot be tweaked. Libraries can only be deleted. You cannot modify anything in a library. It's fixed. If you have content you want to tweak - you'll have to do that in the user area.

... this would mean initializing the user area again - importing all Performances from the Library you want a Performance tweaked (there's a way to select all so this is faster than hunting) - and then import. Now your user area has all of the Performances from the Library and the user area Performances can be modified. Modify what you need. Check the Live Set (User Bank) that it reflects what you want for this band's Live Set - you may need to do this by hand ... again. And then Store/Save a new library maybe with the band name and "v2" for version 2 or date or what have you.

I am constantly tweaking Performances so I do not use Libraries to organize my data. For me avoiding the extra steps for tweaking is worth any downside anywhere else in the workflow. This may not apply to you.

Although you said 'stored to "Live Set" please understand that there are EIGHT Live Set user banks.
So you actually stored all of those performances into the 'USER 1' bank.

The 'simple' solution is to move/copy the performances for band #2 to the USER 2 Live Set bank and the performances for band #3 to the USER 3 Live Set bank.

When you copy them just put them into the order you want them.

Then follow Jason's first advice and rearrange the performances in the USER 1 Live Set bank to be in the order you want.

Be sure to create a BACKUP file both before and after you do any major reorg work like that just in case you make a mistake.
