Some questions about "Performance Recording Mode" and "Song Recording Mode" of the MOXF:
1) In Performance Recording Mode I can change between different Arpeggio Types during recording by pressing one of the buttons SF1 to SF6. Is there any way to do this in Song Recording Mode? (in Song mode buttons SF1 to SF6 seem to be used to switch between Scenes.

It seems Performance Recording is supposed to be the starting point to creating a new song. If I want to change something which I have recorded in Performance Recording Mode it seems I need to use the Song Edit Mode.
Is there any way to use Performance Recording Mode instead of Song Recording Mode to modify work that has been previously recorded in Performance Recording mode. For example, I start to record a Split Layer Performance (Bass & Piano) in the measures 1:01-4:01. Then I stop recording. Now I want to continue to record measures 5:01-8:01 in Performance Recording mode. But this doesn't seem to be possible. It seems I can only completely overwrite the previous recording.

1) Yes. Scenes can memorize what Arp is active.
A SCENE will remember the current ARP (among the many things that it stores). It takes less than 20 seconds to setup.
Call up your SONG and simply:
Press [ARP EDIT]
Recall ARP 1
Press [SONG] to go to the main SONG screen
Hold [STORE] + [SCN1]
You have now STORED ARP 1 to SCENE 1
The screen will read briefly “SCENE and ARP Type Stored”.
Press ARP EDIT
Recall ARP 2
Press [SONG] to go to the main SONG screen
Hold [STORE] + [SCN2]
You have now STORED ARP 2 to SCENE 2
Rinse and repeat until you have stored all ARPS to your SCENES.
Press [STORE] to store the entire SONG and MIX.
The recording is documented in Song mode. To change something that was recorded, you would access this by editing the Track data.

Yes, there is a way to use Performance Record to break the recording down into specific measures.
But first your numbering is faulty. Measure 1: Beat 01 to Measure 4: Beat 01 is only three complete measures... you cannot begin record at Measure 5: Beat 1 (what happened to measure 4 Beats 1, 2, 3 and 4 (but we think we know what you mean.)
001:1 through 005:1 = 4 complete measures. The *top* of measure 1 to the *top* of measure 5 is 4 complete.
005:1 through 009:1 = the next 4 complete measures.
Just FYI.
How to accomplish your goal
Instead of directing Performance Record to a blank Song; direct it to a blank Pattern.
Press [RECORD]
Set the target to Pattern
Set the SECTION to A
Set the Length to the number of measures you which to record: 004 for example.
Record the four measures.
The MOXF will automatically punch you out, and switch modes to let you hear what you've done.
Return to Performance
Press [RECORD]
This time target SECTION B
Set the Length as you require 004 for example to record another four bar section.
And so on...
You can record 16 such SECTIONS, A-P.
Then you can assemble ("Chain") the Sections into a linear structure and finally "convert" it to a Song.
