I'ld need an info about the following problem:
I've a Yamaha Motif XF7 that I use in live concerts and I've built a lot of Performances inside the XF with split, layer, etc etc.
Due to a problem of "weight to transport" during rehearsal studio sessions I'ld prefer to bring only my Motif Rack ES loading only the performances from the XF (is not important the sounds but the split point for each part in the performance and the name of the performances.
I tried to do a bulk from each performance from the XF to the Rack ES via MIDI cable but I received a "midi error" on ES.
The question is:
What could be the winning procedure to adopt for exporting performances from XF to ES if possible? Via MIDI? Via external software like a DAW or third part sw?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi Alfredo,
There is no compatibility between Performances created in the Motif XF (2010) and the Motif-Rack ES (2004).

Not only has the basic Motif engine evolved two generations, much (over 80%) of the Wave ROM is different. The Voice architecture went from four Elements (ES) to eight Elements (XF). The Wave ROM went from 175MB (ES) to some 741MB (XF). Although they share a name and concept, the engines simply have too many differences. Even the number of User banks and Voices has increased...

What usually happens between models, where possible, the next product in the series may include a "look up" table, that allows Voice data from the older one to find an appropriate substitute Waveform in the newer product. This would allow some one upgrading to the newer product to find an appropriate substitute sound. But that is only extended to Voice programs, not Performance setups. And usually never going back in time; (in 2004) some of the innovations (effects, filters, controls) had not even been developed yet; so there can be no expectation of newer data being loaded into the older product in this case.

The thing you can do is when using the Motif ES simply select sounds that are similar, there is no direct (automatic) way to recreate a Motif XF Performance in a Motif ES...

See if the rehearsal study has a backline XF, many do. If they do, you can simply bring your USB stick and Flash Boards, load up and play.
