Hi

I have a performance where I wold like to use the Foot Control (2) rather than the mod wheel (performing the same type of modulation).

I go into Part Edit/ Mod/Control / Control Assign and change Source to FootCntrl2 however the result seems to be the sound being modulated at 100% and no variation available form the foot controller.

I am not using a Yamaha foot control, however the controller works in other performances - controlling the superknob, etc.

I hope this is enough infomation to assist with...

thanks

The MW is a dedicated controller that always is assigned as CC1. One method of changing one of your assignable controllers to do what the MW does is to set that Controller to CC1

You must first check to see if you have a Foot Controller 2 — if you have set FC2 to be something different it will not act as your MW
From the HOME screen
Press [EDIT]
Touch “Control” > “Control Number”

Here you can review what CC# each of your assignable controller is set to send... from THIS Performance.
Because the Foot Controller 2 is often used to move the “Super Knob“ you may find it already tasked with other duties. If it is set to Super Knob technically speaking it IS acting as the Super Knob.

If you want it to substitute FC2 for MW, set Foot Controller 2 = 1
By doing so the FC2 is now going to replace the MW and will be applied to all Control Assignments set to “Mod Wheel”
The FC2 becomes the MW
Right now it’s probably doing duty as the Super Knob surrogate.

Extra Credit:
The Foot Control 2 when set CC4 (Foot Control) can be used in the method you tried (reprogramming the “Source”.
Set the Foot Ctrl 2 = CC4
Then you can change the assignment from Source = MW to Source = Foot Ctrl 2

Thanks again BM!

I am using the Glassy AF1 organ part and if I look under Part Edit/ Mod/Control / Control Assign it appears that the MW controls InsB SpdCntrl.

If I look at Effect/InsB there is a slot left top "Speed Control" which has only slow and fast settings - is this what the MW controls?

Reason I ask is I would actaully like to save the scene with the MW setting at 100% (up) for this part.

I read the owner's manual right through on the weekend - I will have to read the reference manual next...

Yes. Like the Leslie Speed Control there are two settings SLOW (Chorale) and FAST (Tremolo).

Reason I ask is I would actaully like to save the scene with the MW setting at 100% (up) for this part.

No, what you want is the Rotary Speaker to default to FAST (Tremolo) — the reason it must be stated this way is dualfold
First, it is actually what you want
Second, the MW always defaults to 0 and always sends minimum-to-maximum, 0-127.

What you can do is flip the script. Set the initial speed to what you actually want, which is FAST
Then change the application of the MW so that it will change from Fast-to-Slow... you do this by making the “Ratio“ a negative value. Now when you raise the MW you are actually applying negative value. This will cause the parameter to change maximum to minimum

_ Navigate to the Rotary Speaker’s “Speed Control” parameter, set it as you wish it be when you recall the Performance ie, FAST
_ Go to the Part’s “Mod/Control” > “Control Assign” > set “Auto Select” On (green is active) > move the MW to recall the assignment
_ Flip the “Ratio” to a negative value. You can understand the graphic now shows a ramp going downhill left-to-right, which represents the Fast being transitioned to Slow.

I read the owner's manual right through on the weekend - I will have to read the reference manual next...

The Reference Manual and the Supplementary Manual version 2.50 are exactly that “reference” manuals. Use them to look things up. They should not be read cover to cover necessarily, but more like you use an encyclopedia or reference book.

OK that works OK for the performance I am working on, however is there a way of setting the rotary speed to fast, independent of the mod wheel?

And from what I see, the mod wheel instructions you have given me above only affect the Organ part with other parts mod wheel effects as original.

Also the mod wheel changes to the part are not a scene setting but apply to the whole performance?

Question is not clear. The Rotary Speaker “Speed Control” can be assigned to any Controller you desire. In one of the routines above we show you how to FAST... You can then assign it to any Controller you desire.

What you need to understand is where does the Controller default. MW defaults to 0 (minimum), AsSw1/2 default to Off (minimum), FC default you 127 (maximum).

And from what I see, the mod wheel instructions you have given me above only affect the Organ part with other parts mod wheel effects as original.

Control Assignment are per Part. The MW will effect all Parts unless the Receive Switch is set to Off for the Part in question. What the MW does can be different for each Part of a Performance.

Also the mod wheel changes to the part are not a scene setting but apply to the whole performance?

Yes, of course. A Guitar with a whammy bar does not have it in just one Scene but in the whole Performance. Your lead synth has MW doing vibrato not just in the Scene but in the whole Performance...

Sorry for the non-clarity.

What my purpose is, is to have the Organ part on the fast setting AND no longer controlled by the mod wheel - I guess this is just a matter of setting the rotary to FAST as per your instruction above and then turning OFF the receive switch?

I can then control the Syn Lead part via MW or FC without affecting the Organ part.

Kind of meandering here - it seems your initial request was to control rotary speaker speed with the foot controller - then your last message seems to imply you may just want to force the rotary speaker to fast without any control and dedicate both mod wheel and foot controller for your synth - and not have either foot controller nor modwheel affect the organ.

Either way, I don't think you need to turn off the receive switch for the organ PART. If you want to make the modwheel stop modulating the rotary speaker speed - you would delete the control assignment (with destination as rotary speaker speed) for that PART and call that task done. As you've said and correctly understand - you would just program the parameter to FAST if that's what you want to force the speed to.

If you still want to change the organ's rotary speaker speed - then there's more to do - but, if not, that's the long and short of the rotary speaker programming.
