I'd like to midi my MX-49 to my main Yamaha keyboard so that I can layer certain MX sounds over my main keyboard when I'm playing the main keyboard. But when I'm soloing on the MX and playing left hand on main keyboard I don't want MX sounds playing on the left hand parts. Do I accomplish this my using certain midi channels, and do I have to put the MX sounds in performance mode to do this?

A device set to receive MIDI IN will sound in response to that MIDI In. If your "main Yamaha keyboard" has a MIDI Master Keyboard mode, then you would limit the range from the controlling keyboard... You want to NOT transmit out on the range of NOTES that you want not to sound on the MX. If you are comping with your left hand on the main keyboard, then you want to set a NOTE LIMIT for transmitting from that Keyboard. The Receiving keyboard has no choice but to respond. The NOTE LIMITS you set on the receiving keyboard are NOTE LIMITs for the receiving keyboard's Keyboard. Not Note Limits for incoming MIDI.

Is your unnamed "main Yamaha keyboard" a MIDI Master keyboard? Meaning does it allow you to create transmit Out ZONES?

Sorry Bad Mister, I would've saved you some time. My main keyboard is a Yamaha P-105 digital piano. I put up a question a couple days ago about the possibility of using a midi converter between the 105 usb and the mx midi jacks. While waiting for the converter I ordered to arrive(iconnectivity mio2) I thought I'd save myself some time by finding out how to program the keyboards in case the converter works. As you know there isn't much programming to be done on the 105, except maybe midi channels. Before posting again I'll wait until the converter arrives to see if it's actually going to work.
