I'm an acoustic player finally venturing into the world of digital keyboards, so apologies in advance if this is a naive question. I'm trying to get MIDI files loaded into the Performance banks of the CP4 (with CFX Grand as the main voice and the MIDI sound file as the layer). Can anyone point me in the right direction for instructions as to how to do that? I CP4 manual wasn't much help. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Hi Ron,
The Performance banks of the CP4 Stage contain only Performances (instrument programs) for the instrument

A CP4 Stage Performance is made up of a number of Voices — up to three on the CP4 STAGE: MAIN, LAYER and SPLIT. As such, each one can produce rich, dense sounds. If you connect a computer or another MIDI instrument to your stage piano, you can use its Performances to play received MIDI data. In addition, you can also edit Performance parameters, creating your own original Performances based on the stage piano’s presets.

The CP4 Stage has no facility to playback MIDI files.
If you connect it to an external Sequencer or computer running a Sequencer, each of the CP4 Stage Performance Voices will be on a separate MIDI Channel.
MAIN = channel 1
LAYER = channel 2
SPLIT = channel 3

The CP4 Stage can playback Audio files (.Wav format) from a USB stick. See page 36 of the Owners Manual for details.
