tracks in MIDI have timing priority. MIDI is serial. serial means the events travel down the wire one after the other… First in timing priority is channel 10, typically used for drums, next is track 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., etc.
back then you were talking about the motif sequencer, of course. how about montage? does your above statement also apply to its recorder tracks?

As you know, the Montage has a direct Performance Recorder (not a sequencer). So what the Motif XF did with track priority does not necessarily apply. Frankly, I don't know if the same timing priority is enforced in Montage - since it is not a traditional sequencer.
thank you, phil, i appreciate your honest response. but i have to say that i respectfully disagree with your view as to whether the montage has a sequencer or not. it has, according to yamaha. the following excerpt is from the official montage brochure:
yes, basic sequencer functions like copying or erasing notes have not been implemented. one can not fix mistakes made during a recording. there is no point in that, due to the fact that we are talking about a couple of kilobytes of simple midi data, not memory-intensive wav files. technically it is a midi sequencer, so therefore it must prioritize a midi track over other midi tracks, don´t you think? i have a favor to ask you: could you drop the montage developers (or at least one of them) a mail about the matter? they should know it. here they are:
that would be most helpful. many thanks.
As BM says - it's not a traditional sequencer - the brochure describes it as a Performance Recorder. Why waste time continually complaining about what the montage isn't.
i'll never get tired of criticizing the fact that yamaha artificially restricted the built-in sequencer. as parent company of steinberg they want montage customers to purchase the full-blown cubase version later also. i call that kind of behaviour shameless chicanery. for example: can anyone explain to me why yamaha enhanced montage's functionality by adding 'song loop PLAYBACK', but not 'song loop RECORDING'?? pure chicanery. they should stop playing games with us.
