I have been reading many suggestions for getting Motif Rack XS to properly respond to aftertouch. Although, many suggestions indicate aftertouch should be working, and that I could 'easily' adjust response, nowhere do I find a simple explanation of how and what parameters need editing. My keyboard properly controls aftertouch (level) within itself and other outboard sound modules. Please tell me how to simply resolve this issue. Otherwise, please explain why this is a limitation of the Motif Rack XS.

Welcome Jay,
We moved your post to the dedicated Motif-Rack XS forum.

Aftertouch is a Control device in MIDI that is its own Category of message. It does not have a fixed function - in other words, it does not do anything until you assign a parameter to directly respond to it.

Aftertouch is a uni-directional Control. This means when you apply it to a parameter you can change that parameter in one direction and back. For example, increase from a start point, when applied, then return to the start point upon release. Conversely, if Depth application is negative you decrease the value, it will return to start point when released.

The point though is you must choose the Destination parameter you want to change, then set a Depth (or amount of change).

For example, if you wanted to control vibrato by Aftertouch, you would navigate to one of the six Control Sets within the Voice,
Press [EDIT]
Select "Controller"
Cursor Down to page 2 of 4 you will see the Control Sets (Ctl Set) there will be two per Page, there are six total. It consists of a Source (Src) controller, a Destination (Dest) parameter, and a Depth (how much and in which direction).
assign:

Source = Aftertouch
Destination = E-LFO PMD (Element LFO pitch modulation depth)
Depth = +20

As SN example... explore some of the VOICES, and see how the Control Sets are configured. Not many of the Voices have Aftertouch assigned because it's a personal preference. The heavy handed player should find it disturbing and thing something is wrong - so it's best activated / assigned when you know you want it.
