I have no options available under 'Midi OUT' on the Setup screen in the Motif XS VST, even though the XS is detected on the same screen under 'mLAN Device' and 'mLAN' is selected on the XS itself under [Utility] - [Control] - [MIDI]. I have attached a screenshot.

What is the version of the Yamaha Steinberg FW driver do you have installed? On what type of computer?

I have Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver V1.6.6, and I am running Windows 10. Also, the VST is v1.6.4.

Thanks. That sounds like a match.

If you cannot get the VST3 version of the Editor to register within your DAW... Try launching the Editor as a standalone application running along side your DAW. See if you are successful connecting the Editor and the XS Port.

This will tell us whether it is something with the Editor or simply an issue getting it configured inside your DAW.

Let us know.

You can, by the way, operate the Editor along side your DAW. The only difference is you will need store a separate file for the Editor.

After trying the standalone Editor, I can confirm that the problem lies with Reaper. I now see 'Motif XS8 Main' pre-selected under MIDI Out, as well as under MIDI In (! this box was not even able to be selected when running as a VST in Reaper, as can be seen in the screenshot).

I'll make my way toward Reaper support channels in the interest of figuring out if/how the Editor VST can be made to work within Reaper. A quick google search leads me to believe that I may be the only person attempting to put these two pieces of software together. This very thread is currently the second result...

In the meantime, I also did a quick search for information on running the standalone Editor alongside a DAW as you described, but I was unsuccessful. Is there any documentation available for this setup?

Launch the β€œYamaha Motif XS Editor Standalone/VST” as a stand-alone application, the MANUAL is found on the Menu bar under HELP... It is just over 50 pages and is very complete. If you get stuck or have any questions please post back here.

Hi everybody,
I have the same problem using the Motif XS editor in Reaper. πŸ™
One of the reason I love the Motif is his DAW integration, the VST editor reloads the last session automatically with the DAW project.
It worked perfectly in Cubase. I'm used to synth editors but I can't get it to work in Reaper.

The Motif XS ports are recognised in reaper, inputs enabled. In the Editor I can set to Port4 to Motif-R XS-1 but I can't in Port1...(no ports listed here). So Synchronistion doesnt work and displays "Port Open Error". Im using the USB , not mLan.

Any idea ?

thanks a lot, I need to go Reaper and let Cubase...

It works perfectly in Cubase because Cubase is VST3 compatible.

Search the Internet for β€œREAPER and VST3” seems some folks have found a workaround.
