MOX MASTER mode programming

Dear all,

I need to know if it is possible to create a master program in MOX8 as following:
2 or 3 zones are MOX keyboard splits, but the zone #4 is a MOX internal sound played only by an external midi controller.
Just to explain better: since 4 zones are quite difficult to place in 88keys of MOX8, I need to play at least 1 zone by an external keyboard.
My idea is to force the zone 4 to react only to a specific MIDI channel, after programming the parameter BasicRcvCh with the same.
But I cannot find the parameters necessary to do this.

Anyone can help me?
Thanks

Master mode should be used when you are using your MOX as your main keyboard to both control external devices along with the internal sounds.

That does not describe what you want to do. You want to control internal sounds via the MOX keyboard and also control another MOX sound with an external keyboard. You can accomplish what you wish using any Song/Pattern MIXING setup. Place the sounds in a single MIXING setup and set the MIDI RECEIVE CHANNELS to suit your needs. Here's how:

Press [SONG] or [PATTERN]
Select a blank location
Press [MIXING]
Press [EDIT]
Press [1] to view Parts 1-4
Press [F1] VOICE
Press [SF1] VOICE
Select the sounds you want to play internally for Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4

Press [SF2] MODE
Set the Receive Channel for the first three Parts to Channel 1

Place the sound you want to play from the external keyboard in Part 4 and set the Receive Channel to Channel 2.

With the MOX MIDI I/O = MIDI, connect the MIDI OUT of your external keyboard to the MIDI IN of MOX, now when you play your external keyboard (ch2) it will trigger the sound you placed in Part 4, while on the MOX press the Track [1] button to trigger the three Parts assigned to Channel 1.

You can NOTE LIMIT the Parts as you require. [F1] VOICE, SF3] LIMIT

Hope that helps. Use Master mode when using the MOX as the master keyboard.

Dear "Bad Mister",

thanks for your reply.
It is clear and clever, and it's reasonable to create a different "song program" for each of the song I want to play in the live performances.
I was planning to buy one or more editors by J.Melas (master and performance) and I saw there's a mix editor also available. That's great!

I tried to apply your suggestion step-by-step but unfortunately it doesn't work or, better, it has a weird functioning.
All the steps can be performed exactly as you described but:
- the note limits can be set but they have no effect
- the external midi controller plays only the zone with the specific MIDI channel (YESSS), but if I try to set 2 zones with the same ext CH just the first is played, the second is triggered by MOX (...)
- the zone set to CH1 are not played all by MOX, one is muted
- in order to activate and play a zone assigned to CH1 (MOX) may I press the button (1-16) to the right everytime? Can be possible to have all the zones always ON?
- how can I assign a name to the song/mix pattern? I cannot find how

Sorry to stress you with all of these issues, I just think it would be great to use MOX as more intensively as possible.
In fact if this is not possible I have to buy another synth to be commanded by MOX through program changes.
This is a very common situation, I know, but don't you think it is a pity considering the huge amount of great sounds contained in MOX?

Thanks again for support.
Best regards

the note limits can be set but they have no effect

The NOTE LIMITS affect only the Parts played from the MOX keyboard Parts 1, 2, and 3
Note Limit is, after all, a parameter for the internal MOX.

- the external midi controller plays only the zone with the specific MIDI channel (YESSS), but if I try to set 2 zones with the same ext CH just the first is played, the second is triggered by MOX (...)

Youve lost me we are in Song/Pattern mode there are no Zones. Hopefully you are talking about the Note Limit regions. Did you [STORE] the program and use button [1] to select the MOX transmit channel 1, naturally if you place the cursor on a Part the MOX will play it, that's normal.

Once you set your Parts... STORE the program and address it from the main Song screen. While you are editing the Mixing what you touch you can play. Return to the main mode screen to perform with this Program - the

buttons 1 and 2 will let you play.
[1] = Parts 1, 2, and 3; each set to Rcv Ch 1
[2] = Part 4; set to Rcv Ch 2

- the zone set to CH1 are not played all by MOX, one is muted

Again, we are not in Master mode so Zone is the wrong term. Unmute the muted Part.

- in order to activate and play a zone assigned to CH1 (MOX) may I press the button (1-16) to the right everytime? Can be possible to have all the zones always ON?

No, to play Parts 1, 2, and 3 you must press [1]

- how can I assign a name to the song/mix pattern? I cannot find how

This is the kind of basic thing the manuals are really good for... press [SONG] > press [JOB] > select NAME SONG.

Dear Bad Mister,

all the steps I did were right and it was still not working.

Finally I found that I didn't follow your first suggestion: start from an empty song...
In fact for all the tests I did I started from songs with no name, but they were not empty!

Now everything work as you explained.

Thanks again for help
Best regards

Watch out for that "first step".... it's usually a doozie! 🙂
