I admit I have to do some searches here to dig a little deeper but I thought I'd pose this question as a start. I bought my MOXF used so it did not come with the Steinberg software or remote editor, just the keyboard itself. I have since downloaded the Steinberg USB driver on my Mac as well as Reaper. I just bought a USB to USB cable to connect the two. I have a few songs already recorded in Song mode that I'd like to edit and produce an MP3 with. My question is do I have enough here to get something working? I would settle for just editing on the keyboard and transferring the song to a USB flash drive if I could but it doesn't seem possible. Ultimately I would prefer to use the Reaper if I can. Coming from a Roland XP-60 and Juno G, they were a lot more intuitive and easy to use. Would anyone know if I can get something going with what I have? Any help or guidance would be much appreciated! 🙂

Yes. If by "Steinberg USB driver" you mean the "Yamaha Steinberg USB driver version 1.9.10 for Mac", then you everything all you need to get started.

That's the one but seem to be having problems getting Reaper to recognize the driver and trying to follow the instructions here on getting started, but getting nowhere so far - appreciate your response, have your DVD which is a good one. I'm not so technically savvy but once I get the right steps I'm ok. I would be coming from song mode with a song already recorded, never worked with computer software for music production before so I'm a novice.

Looks like I'm able to download Steinberg Cubase AI and the remote editor for free? Can you confirm? Thanks for your guidance Bad Mister.

The original purchaser of the MOXF is provided an ACCESS CODE which authorizes them to download and activate a free copy of the Steinberg Cubase AI. Unfortunately, that entitlement is not passed along when the gear is sold by the original purchaser... However, you may want to contact your regional Yamaha Customer Support desk and tell them your story.

Cubase AI does offer some distinct advantages in that you can run the "Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8 Editor Standalone/VST" inside of Cubase as a VSTi - The Virtual Studio Technology makes recording MIDI and rendering audio from the MIDI tracks a breeze. It allows you to use the "FREEZE" function (which lets you open additional instances of the MOXF when you need more than 16 Track) and it allows you to use "EXPORT AUDIO MIXDOWN" - renders your MIDI to audio through the MOXF hardware.

The REMOTE EDITOR (free download) allows you to create control templates for other VSTi that you maybe running in Cubase.

Both the "MOXF Editor" and the "Remote Editor" can be run stand alone (means: as a separate computer application - does not have to run inside of a DAW, like Cubase).

Hope that helps.
