Hi again!
Just a short question, am I able to use Arps to play all the notes from note X to Y like a glissando? For example
-if I press C3 and G3 it plays all the notes between C3 and G3 for me
-if I press G3 and C3 it plays all the notes from G3 to C3.
-If I press A2 and E3 it plays all the notes from A2 and E3
-...
like this:
Title

I know you can do it by ear but I want to be accurate and play exactly from note X to Y with the same parameters such as velocity etc.

I have been looking into XA capabilites but it seems it's not possible with XA. Is yamaha going to add a simple feature like this if we ask?

Hi A,
Welcome to Yamaha Synth!
There is no need for a new feature in order to accomplish this musical gesture. And to show you how the thought process goes... the design of the sequencer accounts for more than one type of gliss.

The glissando on the piano is different from the results on other instruments. On piano the glide between notes results in each note sounding with an attack, where on some acoustic instrument this same gestures results in a smooth glide between the pitches. Fretless string instruments are an example, the penny whistle and trombone are other examples where the glissando or glide has an entirely different sonic result... There may not be the sense of separate attacks per note, as must occur on a percussion instrument like the piano.

There are, quite naturally, several ways to accomplish glide/glissando in the MOXF sequencer...
1) You can step enter each note controlling spacing and duration as precisely as you desire.
2) You can use the Pitch Bend Wheel to accomplish the result - range is easily programmable.
3) You can use the very in-depth "GLIDE" function found in the MOXF sequencer [JOB], that allows you create glides with very precise results - even controlling the speed of the results ... Do you want it even across the distance, do you want it to start slowly and speed up or start quickly and slow down? The sequencer's Glide function is best mastered by trial-and-error because it is a musical gesture, timing and whether or not you hear distinct note-on events or just a smooth gliss is programmable, highly programmable. The GLIDE function uses precise values for pitch bend commands to control the change and can produce very convincing smooth (non-attack) glissandos. You set the precise range and give it the curve you wish and it constructs the gliss to your specifications... You can even program the intervals where the attack pitch is heard.

If you want the notes separate and precisely the same, investigate STEP RECORD - you can enter Steps as small as you desire (every quarter note can be divided into 480 steps) so 30 steps is a 64th note, 15 steps is a 128th note.
Press [RECORD] while in Song or Pattern mode
On the Record Setup screen set REC TYPE = STEP
Press the [PLAY] button
Here you can set the attributes of the notes you are going to enter... STEP is how far it advances after you touch the keyboard. Each key press advances to the next step upon you releasing the key. You can enter single notes or chords. They register when you release the key.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for this awesome answer I'm right now reading the manual 🙂 I want to use it in live performance so what you said means it's not possible to play every single note inbetween using Arps?

No, I did not mention Arps. Arpeggios can do most anything you can record to the sequencer - in fact, whatever they do, you must first record it to the sequencer prior to converting it to an arpeggio. So if you create the gliss using any of the methods I mentioned with the sequencer, that data can be converted to an arpeggio.

An arpeggio is limited to 16 unique notes - so just remember this when creating your sequence.

Thanks Bad Mister! I studied both Arps and the Glide function last night and It seems i can't get it work. Got some silly results not even close to what you said 😀 I am looking for something that pronounces every note clearly with a very short portamento. Like a guitar glissando. How should I use Glide? It only glides from one not to the other and decays for large PB values 🙁 After playing with it for some time this is how it works for me:
guitar glide failed
The second part is after glide. The Voice amplitude also decays if I set the value to some greater value.
What I want:
Play C Bend From C to D then E then F without decay. BTW I noticed pitch bend doesn't sound the same as the sample being bent to. And just out of curiosity do you know the difference between portamento and pitch bend in MOTIF workstations?
