Recalling Motif XS rack Voices from Roland A-33

Using Roland A-33 as a masterkeyboard to recall Motif XS rack Voices and Multis, I've encountered this annoying problem: Master Effect settings (i.e. CC#91 and #93) have changed.
If I reprogram Roland A-33 patches zeroing CC#91 and #93 values, this reflects on Motif XS rack Voices and Multis Master Effect settings. In either way, the Voice/Multis sound is not the same.

Is there a way to inhibit Motif XS rack receiving just CC#91 and #93 values, but letting other CCs received (i.e. #64)?

Thanks

The Master Effect of the Motif-Rack XS it's NOT affected by either cc91 nor cc93. Not at all.
cc91 will determine the amount of Reverb Send on the MIDI channel on which the message is sent.
cc93 will determine the amount of Chorus Send on the MIDI channel on which the message is sent.
The Master Effect is NOT controllable via a Control Change (cc) message.

Reverb and Chorus are SYSTEM EFFECTS. The difference is very important to understand.
The MASTER EFFECT is an overall processor that is just before the Master EQ and the main Output. Any Voice you select in VOICE mode, and all Parts of a MULTI go through the Master Effect, the Master EQ, and finally the main Output.
The MASTER EFFECT Types include: DELAY L,R (Stereo); LO-FI; COMP DISTORTION; ISOLATOR; DYNAMIC FILTER; SLICE; RING MODULATOR; MULTI BAND COMP; and VCM COMPRESSOR 376

The SYSTEM EFFECT (Reverb and Chorus) the ones affected by cc91 and cc93, respectively, are setup on a SEND/RETURN structure as you would find on any mixing console. For example, if you are in MULTI mode, each of the 16 PARTS has two AUX Sends - one feeds the Reverb effect, the other the Chorus effect.

So say you have the Rev-X Hall selected as the reverb type. If you send cc91 with a value of 35 on Midi channel 12, you will be applying that amount of reverberation to the Voice in Part 12. If cc91 is sending a value of 0 on Midi channel 13, the Part selected for 13 will be "dry" (without reverberation).
You can thereby set a different amount of reverb for each of the 16 Parts of your Multi.

cc93 works exactly the same for the effect type you select for the Chorus processor... each Part has a send amount.
cc is a Channel Control Change message. And only affects the MIDI channel on which you send it.

If your Motif-Rack XS is in Voice mode, you can play only one sound, on the one Midi channel
If your Motif-Rack XS is in Multi mode, you can address 16 Voices on as many as 16 separate Midi channels and set each independently.

That's what you need to know about your Yamaha Motif-Rack XS. Sorry we have no idea why you are getting the response you are getting.

Is there a way to inhibit Motif XS rack receiving just CC#91 and #93 values, but letting other CCs received (i.e. #64)?

Thanks

You have bypass buttons for your available Effects. See page 34 of your Motif-Rack XS Owners Manual... "Switching the Effect on/off"
Press [EFFECT] on the front panel and disable whichever you are having an issue with... Hope that helps... We are not sure exactly what issue you are attempting to describe but let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks for the reply which really elightened my ideas.
To be honest, I did a mistake when I said Master Effects when really meaning Sysem Effects.

The issue is simple to describe: when A-33 is used to recall Motif XS rack Voices, the sound is extremely wet if compared to the original. That's why the player (it's not me but a friend who actually has no Yamahasynth account, thus asked me to write in his place) must go back and forth by one location, to recover the correct effect balance for the Voice.
So, I thought that when A-33 sends a program change it send also CC#91 and #93 values that change the System Effects balance.
That's why I asked how to avoid this annoying issue.

Thanks to you all! Finally I've found the solution here : http://forums.musicplayer.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/2295195/Roland_A_33 . The problem is related to the master keyboard, wich doesn't work properly on cc91 and cc93 messages with external modules that aren't the Roland GS or other midi sound generator. In this case, the master send a cc93 level to zero and unbalance the cc91 and volume message.
So, in order to program correctly the master keyboard you have to use the following procedure as a template:

- before memorizing the patch, you must assign the slider to the cc93 message and set it
- assign the slider to volume messages and set it
- then you can memorize the patch, that will work properly.

Cheers!
