Hello - when I switch Montage on and press a key - nothing happens. I have to press a key several times before the sound finally arrives. This also happens if I have to leave Montage for any length of time - when I come back, no sound until the 4th or 5th key press. Is this a known problem? If so, is there a known solution, please? It doesn't bother me, just curious as to why ...

After you turn on Montage - it has to boot before responding to key presses. This is normal for any keyboard which is a mix of hardware and software such as Montage or the Korg Kronos. The Kronos takes much, much, much longer to boot - so I would say "slow" is a misnomer. The Montage boot time is very fast.

Your second case - coming back to the Montage - is not as clear. Trying to "fit the curve" of what you've reported is that, I guess, you have Montage set to auto power-off. This is an option since certain countries require devices to automatically power down when not in use. You can turn this feature off so the unit does not automatically power down. The guess is that pressing a key wakes Montage back up so you have to wait the normal boot-time.

Hello Jason - I didn't explain it very well, sorry. The Montage is fully booted up before I press any keys. The external monitor is active too - I often have to turn the Montage off and on again 2 or 3 times before the external screen fires up, so it's all operational. Then press a key. Nothing. Press again. Nothing. Again - maybe, but often a 4th: press is required. It's set to 'Never' sleep - though occasionally it does, another little trait - so everything is still all lit up just like I left it an hour or two before. Press a key. Nothing. It's a repeat of the start-up. It looks as if it's unique to my Montage, as no-one else has noticed it. I believe it has a mind of its own and only plays along when it wants to ...

Ok - I know you have your Montage in a sea of MIDI connections. Unplug all of the MIDI connections (just ones plugged into Montage - not all your other equipment) and retest. I also do not know how your audio is routed from Montage to your speakers. So either use headphones during the test or ensure your monitors for listening to the keyboard are plugged directly into MAIN L&R outputs instead of having to go through other equipment first (mixer, other keyboards, etc).

The purpose of this test is to isolate the environment down to just Montage. I would also unplug anything from the audio inputs L&R during this test. Probably not necessary for this kind of problem - but a general thing I would do to get Montage completely isolated.

Also it would be good to note if the performance is a preset one (like CFX + FM EP) or your own custom performance. Because there are ways to make this kind of behavior by programming a custom performance. That is not as likely.

Hello Jason - finally got round to doing something about this. With only the Montage switched on, I removed the Main balanced outputs from Montage and plugged just my headphones into it. I stayed with the CFX + FM piano to keep everything comparable, and pressed a key. Hey Presto! Immediate response first time. So I re-plugged the Main balanced leads back in and went away for an hour - came back, pressed a key - nothing. 4th press to get a response. The Main outs do go to a mixer and then to the speakers - but so do the main outs from the Korg and the Tyros, both driven by the Montage - and they sound even though the Montage doesn't! So it doesn't seem to be the mixer causing the delay. Trouble is I don't know exactly how long I have to leave it for the delay to happen when I try again, an hour is long enough, but maybe only 10 minutes would do. Anyway, I'm used to it, so if it's not a common problem that is easily fixed, it doesn't bother me. Thanks for thinking about it ...

I would confirm if Montage by itself exhibits this problem without any MIDI connections and without any mixers - just headphone monitoring. Do everything you can to try to get the problem to surface (leave for an hour - or whatever seems to cause the problem). And leave the configuration simplified (only Montage) until you're convinced that the problem exists in this configuration - or no longer exists. Then I would connect just the mixer and mixer attached speakers and retest. If the problem surfaces - then I would leave the configuration slightly scaled back (Monitor+speakers only, no MIDI connections) but also use headphones and notice if there is ever a time where your mixer-connected-speakers do not sound while your headphones do. This would tell you the mixer is involved.

Then I would add the MIDI connections. If the problem has not surfaced with the above slightly scaled-back configuration ... and the problem surfaces with MIDI connections - then there may be an issue with your MIDI routing.

Finding issues is going step-by-step making one change at a time.

Hey,
I'm a little late here because the title is missleading!
I have the same problem sometimes.

It happens from time to time when I don't use the Montage for a while (that means 10 to 20 minutes), that the sound doesn't come immediately. Instead, just as Rod described it, I have to press the keys a couple of times until you hear a sound. It seems almost like there would be a sleep mode. I don't have any midi connections at that time. It is not always reproducible so it's actually hard to report. But I would also like to hear if someone else has this.

It's not a big deal, especially not on stage where the keyboard is played constantly, but I'm not able to isolate the problem at home. For some reason it appears from time to time, never when I turn the keyboard on, but sometimes if I don't play it for a while. As I said, like it would go into sleep mode and need some time to wake up.
