Hi,

In our band, the drummer sometimes looks at the superknob to check the tempo because he plays without click or Metronome. The problem is that it’s very hard to get the tempo from the superknob because the light “glows” in a sine or triangle wave. It’s not very clear. Is it possible to implement a function to make it flash in a sawtooth or pulse Rhythm? So the beginning of each count is very clear?
Thanks!
Regards,
Stef

Seems like a reasonable idea for ideascale.

I presume you’ve tried all 17 Super Knob LED Patterns? (Sorry I’m on an airplane and cannot verify if there are more definite flashing modes to suit this request).

Have you tried letting the drummer set the Tempo for your Arpeggiator? Say the drummer counts off with stick clicks — feed that audio to the MONTAGE A/D Input with the MIDI SYNC set to “A/D In”. If that’s not feasible....

...as the drummer is counting off the tempo you can be setting Tap Tempo along with them ... example, drummers typical count two measures for nothing 1_2_1234... you just need to feed three taps for MONTAGE to be set to the count...
Touch the Quarter Note icon on the very top line of the screen to engage Tap Tempo
Tap the box on the screen or the [ENTER] button on any three counts to have MONTAGE grab that as the Tempo.

I did try all superknob patterns hoping one would work "out of the box". All but one shared this "soft" transition where the glow faded in and out. The one out-lier setting is more like a crazy strobe - faster than the set tempo - that is more about a light show than to convey tempo.

The only other thought I had is using superknob automation if you are not currently using superknob. You could have the ring around superknob light up in a more "on/off" pulse type pattern with respect to the tempo. Pattern should set superknob to 127 for a moment at the beginning of the cycle - then to 0 for the remainder of the time Setting to tempo .and adjusting time-based parameters you can make the cycles add up to a single beat. The same could be said for the assignable knobs - although they would need to be controlled by superknob and also unused (the one(s) used to convey tempo).

There are also other MIDI devices which will flash in-tempo to the master clock (supplied by Montage). APC or similar pad devices (launchpad, maybe others) have such features.

Tnx for the replies!

@BM, none of the 17 patterns matches my description.
@Jason, the drummer is't able to see the led's around the superknob from his position. I uploaded the idea to ideascale. Tnx for the suggestion!

Regards,

Stef
