CP5 Question

I have both CP5 and Montage keyboards in my studio. The issue is with the CP5. Two different players have said it sounds like the sustain pedal is not working/notes sound cut off. This is ONLY when using the keyboard to control sample libraries. The sustain works with the CP5 internal sounds. The sample libraries are True Keys and Pro Tools samples.

Anyone have an idea of why this is happening. I am not a player?

Thanks!

Sustain pedal used to be a simple thing... step on the pedal sustain value 127 was sent, and attached devices sustained, let go the value 0 is sent sustain function stops.

Assuming you have a Yamaha FC3 connected to your CP5 and assuming you did not change the Sustain Pedal Mode parameter, your instrument is set to do something called half dampering, which allows you to send continuous value from the sustain pedal 0 through 127... the farther you press the pedal the more sustain you get. Really it is so shorter sustains sound more realistic... it’s controlling the felts that damper the strings... allowing the player more accurate pianistic control.

I do not know what your external sample libraries require but to accommodate regular On/Off Sustain (which is what they may be looking for), Set the Sustain Pedal parameter to “FC3 Half Damp Off”... this will make the pedal behave like a simple sustain Off/On Switch.
See page 44 of the CP5/CP50 Reference Manual (pdf).
