Hi,
I just updated the OS to v1.31 and I have an issue with the default C7 sound. I have the default setting (no EQ, Reverb etc) just the Tone around max. I notice when I play the key softly around the middle section to the upper bass section (C2 to C4 regions), there is a metal sound as if the hammer is hitting on the string but the sound is so over amplified that it is very distracting.
Has anyone faced this issue and how do you get by it? Or is it just on mine. Can anyone help me confirm? Thanks.
A lot of what you hear is dependent on the sound system you are listening to and how much you EQ the results
I have the default setting (no EQ, Reverb etc) just the Tone around max.
Have to sound the buzzer on this statement. “...no EQ... just the Tone around max”.
The single knob Tone control is probably very misunderstood. It represents a myriad of EQ settings that are macro’d together - it is not necessarily a linear change at all frequencies. Rather it is more like a map of frequency boost/cut across the range of the instrument — rather than individual EQ Bands, the Tone Control varies the EQ across the range such that you are selecting from a range of settings known to work for the instrument. But make no mistake it is addressing the timbre of the instrument (frequency output level related). One Knob controls like this represent lots of R&D as they represent a series of settings known to work - you are selecting from among EQ curves proven to be useful.
“Tone around max” is in fact a whole bunch of Equalization. If you're saying you can hear a lot more of the hammer hitting the string when the Tone Control is ‘around max’, I’d say that sounds around right!
HI Bad Mister,
Thanks for the reply. I understand the Tone control does a blend of EQ changes, but is this tuned for each instrument sound or is it the same across?
What I can't understand is that ONLY the C7 has this very metallic sound it is also quite audible at Tone around half. No other piano sounds in my CP73 has this metallic sound and the only way I can use the C7 sound is if I put tone at 0. It almost sounds as if it's a synth sound, it's kinda hard to describe but you'll need to try it and listen to it. Maybe I'll get a chance to record it once the shops are open. Meantime, not sure if anyone else can confirm or deny this.
