Not so much a question of IF the cp4 allows assignable outputs (i know it doesn't) but WHY would yamaha make its top-of-the-line stage piano without this feature. most pro synths with layered sounds offer assignable outputs (or at least the good ones do like DSI, Roland, even other yamaha synths).
really limits the power of this thing when harnessing midi and sequencers to create live hardware based sets
Controller mode works better than most so props to Yamaha for getting that right -
Any firmware updates in the works that would add features? i think most people expect some occasional updates
Well, as a CP4 owner I'm somewhat overall satisfied. Being a stage piano, not a full featured professional synthesizer, assignable outputs as in S90ES which is a (heavy) stage piano with synthesizer capabilities, are not fundamental.
What I hardly criticize are the extra sounds, in my humble opinion, not of the same quality of piano and electric piano ones (certain are really lame). The absence of a simple editor/librarian to edit, organize, move, copy and paste performances instead of fumbling with USB stick is simply inexcusable for a product of such price tag.
And about new features and firmware updates I think we'll see them in the next stage piano.

I agree - overall satisfied with the product (great keybed, piano sounds, etc.) Synth sounds are actually quite usable but you usually have to tweak with Filter/EG in order to get them to sound exciting. But I think being able to send the 3 voices to the mixer independently is somewhat fundamental for a stage instrument oriented for live performance. And this is why MIDI integration is so important. With everything buried in menus, it is quite useful to send PC, MSB, LSB with a sequencer instead of relying on the clunky performance implementation. But more CC options would be very useful to control other aspects of the sound like effect parameters other than depth, etc.
I agree that there are some patches that tread dangerously into rompler territory
