Loudness issues in mid-range

I have a problem with my CP4 stage piano: as of recently there are sudden bursts of loudness coming from some specific keys in the midrange. It seems to happen at random, regardless if I play soft or loud. And it happens with different keys, but only in the midrange (middle octave). These bursts are really loud, making normal use of the keyboard impossible, really.
Does this sound like a hardware or software problem to you?
Thanks for the help!
Hans

Hi Hans,

I occasionally get distorted sound from my CP4 (more like a weird patch), but a soft reset always seems to get rid of it...

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply. How do I do a 'soft reset'...?
My problem is not a distorted sound but rather a sudden peak in loudness (I mean really loud!) in some notes in the middle register. I'm suspicious it's hardware related but still hopeful it may be resolved through a reset or perhaps software update...

Hans, I would have your instrument checked by an authorized service center as what you describe sounds like a serious issue.

I had exactly that problem with the middle octave on a Yamaha Clavinova. Turned out the rubber contact strip had to be replaced.

This is starting to happen with my CP4 now too (just middle C so far), after a year and three months. The key will sometimes generate full-on 127 output regardless of velocity actually played. Yamaha service center confirms this is almost certainly a problem with the rubber contact strips. Taking it in for repair in January.

I'm having the same issue with my CP4 as noted above. Did you get the CP4 serviced and if so what was the fix.

Had it repaired. As expected, the rubber contact strips had to be replaced. Yamaha covered it under warranty.

Meanwhile, a friend who has a high-end Yamaha Clavinova started having the same problem after owning it less than two years. Same issue: rubber contact strips.
