I have a S90es with a strange behavior.
The F2 key will trigger the local sound module, but it will not broadcast a midi note instruction. I put a midi monitor on the incoming midi data in Logic Pro X and when I really strike the F2 key hard, I get the following midi broadcast:
F 1 3 1
F 1 3 0
Otherwise, no midi broadcast results from striking the F2 key. Is there a way to reconfigure "F2" key to broadcast midi notes like the other 87 keys on the controller?
I would hate to have to write music that omitted F2. It would be quite inconvenient.
I've been through user manual, but I have not found a solution yet
Joe
PS
Secondary issue:
Interestingly enough, there is also some "noise" on the line when nothing is being played. It is coming from the S90es. I is appearing as constant stream. The following is a sample of the midi instructions appearing in my Logic Pro X incoming monitor:
some_symbol 1 11 69
some_symbol 1 11 67
some_symbol 1 11 65
I looked through the Logic Pro X user's manual, but did not find what the symbol represents.
I looks like an oval laying on its side with a vertical like coming off the top like an antenna so it probably represents some global command
The monitor displays a "quarter" note symbol when a key note is being broadcasted...
PROBLEM RESOLVED: I had previously connected my S90es to my Mac via 5 pin DIN MIDI connectors, but I had difficulty connecting my keyboard to my Mac via USB.
I contacted Yamaha technical support, and after I described the symptoms, they told me that it was probably a hardware issue, and that I would need to have a service technician look at it, but after they learned that I was connected via a 5 pin MIDI DIN connector, I was told that this was not their recommended configuration for connecting their keyboards to a computer.
With the help of Yamaha technical support, I was able to establish the connection via USB which resolved my issue.

The more accurate information you give the better response you get. I don't quite follow what or how you connected to a computer with a 5-pin cable but that definitely would not work. We know of no Macs that come with MIDI jacks... but glad you got it working.
And neither do I.
My S90es was connected like this: S90es > RME UFX (MIDI 1 in to out & out to in) 5 pin DIN midi cables > iMac via USB cable.
Because if the issues that I experienced as outlined above, I wanted to try to see if a direct USB connection to my computer would resolve my problems, and that is when I encountered problems with the driver. Once the driver issues were addressed, the anomaly with both the F2 MIDI triggering and the unexplained noise issue were resolved.
