This is a bit of a refresher to make sure I understand and am using AUTOLOAD correctly. I have been away from the keyboard for awhile and reviewed earlier conversations about this and just looking for a YES or NO (maybe a little more) to make sure I am straight on this function.
If I am working on one pattern over several weeks and just want it to load every time on start up, I just do the steps to name and store it as AUTOLOAD, then it becomes a part of the entire package of files that the Motif loads on start up.
To the extent, I have an existing AUTOLOAD file, do I need to delete that first? I have one in there now that seems to include user voice banks which I no longer want. I just bought D Polich, AXXE voices which i now want to keep in User Bank 2. I understand that user voices store in ROM and remain in memory so I don't have to reload them, correct? However, is it still possible to overwrite USER voice banks with an AUTOLOAD file?
In the end, what I want on startup is my pattern (work in progress) + keep AXXE in User Voice Bank 2. Every thing else can load as factory default.
...I have an existing AUTOLOAD file, do I need to delete that first?
Yes. You do. The concept of the Auto Load file is it is the one that contains everything you need; and you want your instrument to turn On in the condition that this file restores. So like the movie Highlander, "...there can be only one." One AUTOLOAD file.
Your idea to keep it as a "work in progress" working file is a good one... just always remember to STORE any changes to internal memory before saving data to a file. It is the STORED data that gets SAVED to the file. If you update something about the Pattern, and/or the Mixing setup, be sure to press [STORE]... prior to saving it to the file.
STORE writing to internal memory
SAVE writing data to a File.
Thank you Phil.
One followup question - Every time I update my "work in progress" pattern, after I first store it memory, can I then just save it to my existing AUTOLOAD and power off ? Or do I have to delete and create a new AUTOLOAD file every time?
Just overwrite the AUTOLOAD File... there can be only one file named AUTOLOAD... so the name will cause the instrument to ask if you want to overwrite the file with that same name. You’ll see, there can be only one file named “Autoload”
