Hi!
I recently bought a Yamaha Motif Classic and i need to know the exact steps to connect and configure the BC1 Breath Controller.
I need to know if this Motif will work with this BC1, because in the Synth only appears BC2 as an option.
Iy you can see in this video from a brazilian keyboardist, he can plays a BC1 with a Motif ES:

I want to know if i can do the same with my Motif Classic.
Please help me guys.
Thanks.
Dennis
Yes, actually you can use a BC1 (circa 1980) with the Motif classic (circa 2001), but got step-by-step instructions now, in 2016, on how to set it up...
Fortunately, or unfortunately, the BC1 had no adjustable controls (the BC2 and BC3 were huge improvements over the original, because of the adjustability). Learning to put a Voice under breath control is a matter of programming the output level to depend solely on the amount of air you supply to the Breath Controller. So you either program the Voice volume to 0, or just the Element Levels of the Elements you want to control. This way you can control their output level with the BC.
Please see attached article on Assigning Controllers in the Motif (Classic) from 15 years ago...
Hi, fantastic. I will read carefully this doc (initially i thought that the problen was or my BC or my Motif BC jack).
One more question, i have the PLG 100 VL (not the 150)...it´s basically the same, will it work?..because i´ve pluged in into my Motif and it sounds fantastic.
The only thing is now to configure the BC.
Please let me know and thanks again Bad Mister!
They are "basically the same" but the PLG100-VL does not have any ability to make USER bank sounds, It does not have the RAM bank. nor can it use the AUTO LOAD function... You can certainly use it and it will sound awesome, but you do miss out on a couple of features (thus the difference in the model number):
From a previous reply on the subject.....
The PLG150-VL was made for the Yamaha Modulular Synthesis Plug-in System (MSPS) products, which include the Motif. And would provide the user with specially programmed VOICE data for use in the MSPS product. So a PLG150-VL placed in a Motif would have access to Voices made specifically for use by the VL board in a Motif. You also would be able to address the special RAM bank where you can load custom made Voices using the Motif’s ability to AUTO LOAD data to the PLG150-VL.
The PLG100-VL was made for the Yamaha XG products, which include products like the MU128. The MU128 does not have the ability to make and store USER VOICES so it does not have the ability to create USER VOICES that can be stored in the MU. As with all XG/GM products, the VOICE Edits are always contained in a SETUP BAR that precedes playback of the music data.
Obviously a PLG150-VL in a Motif has an advantage as you can create and store Voices that combine the tone generation of the Plug-in board with the Effect processors and Controller assignments of the host product in a more profound way than you could with a PLG100-VL or with an MU128.
The Effect processing, Controller assignment functions of the Motif are far superior to those in the MU128. Being able to create new Voices, using the parameters of Motif with the PLG VL as the sound source, gives the Motif a huge edge. Being able to AUTO LOAD your custom data is also an advantage of the PLG150-series Boards.
