Sorry if this is another silly question. Its not something I need to do, but would like to understand what’s going on here.
I have performance that has 8 parts. Various piano with string type stuff. All working well but i tried to do something that has got me stumped.

Scene 3 has active Piano in parts 1&2. Parts 3&4 are muted, as are parts 5-7. These are used in other scenes. Part 8 is active.
I have part 8 (a bell tone) set so its volume is controlled by the Superknob. Works fine.

What i then tried to do was to see if i can control its volume using slider 8 (4th physical one obviously). I don’t need to do this, dont really want to, but it was just something i thought would work.

The issue. When I select sliders 5-8 using the button next to them, focus immediately jumps from the Performance title box to part 5 on the main screen. Switching back to parts 1-4 sliders puts focus back to the title box. I can of course move slider 8 up and down and this moves the on screen slider, but as focus is now on a muted part, i have no audio.

I know i can swap parts 5 and 8, but i really just want to know what’s going on here. I’m happy with using the Superknob as ill use my FC-7 with it.

I’m sure I’m missing something but cant figure out what.

Thanks for any tips.

Dave.

Hello,

A couple of things here, one you probably already understand, one that you may not:

1. Sometimes this is because you are on Element/Operator level and not Part level. On the left side next to the faders, the top button has "PART" on the upper right (with a corresponding lamp next to it) and "ELEMENT/OPERATOR" (also with a corresponding lamp). To use the fader to move Part 8 you will need to have "PART" selected. You might understand this already. What you may not understand is...

2. Part 8 has volume control assigned to the Super Knob. Super Knob will override that Part Volume slider. Try this:

Go to Part 8, Edit Part 8 Common, Select "Mod/Control" in the screen, then "Control Assign"
Touch on "Auto Select" in the screen and move the Super Knob. It probably has "Volume" as one of the destinations.
Select "Volume" and touch "Delete" in the lower right corner.
That should allow you to use the slider to adjust volume on the screen.

If you want a version of this Performance that works like this just save it as a second option: One with Super Knob control of Part 8 volume, one with Slider Control.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your reply.
I’m not sure if you understood the question, or i dont understand yours.

The slider works fine for part 8, they are set on parts and not elements. If i I move the slider i can see the on screen volume slider going up and down for part 8.The issue is the focus is jumping to part 5 (which is muted) as soon as i set the sliders for parts 5-8. When they are set to 1-4 none of the parts are focused and each slider does what its supposed to.
I know i can select part 8 directly and the slider becomes active (switching automatically to 5-8), but i cant figure out why the focus changes to 5 for 5-8, but stays on common for 1-4.

Ok. Quick update. Having seen this happening on all the Presets as well, I’m happy to go with ‘its normal’ Select sliders 5-8 just by pressing the button and focus jumps to part 5. Select sliders 1-4 and focus jumps back to the performance title block.

In my case i just enabled keyboard control for part 5 and muted it.

Still cant see a reason for this to happen, but at least i know its nothing i did by accident.
