Hi,

I've seen demo saying that if we hook up Yamaha FC7 expression pedal to the MODX we can control the super knob. However, I couldn't do that. Whenever I use the FC7 it just switches on and off the Arpeggio instead. I think there must be because of wrong setting?

Regards,
V

The Yamaha FC7 must be plugged into the Foot Controller 2 jack on the back panel... the Factory Presets have Foot Controller 2 assigned to Super Knob.

Hi Bad Mister,

While we are on this topic, is there away to setup a "Una Corda" pedal for piano patches on MODX?

Regards,
Vic

To actually emulate “una corda” you would need to transition to a Waveform Set that represents a piano action physically shifted so less strings are engaged by the hammers when the key is struck. In the area where 2 and 3 strings are normally engaged by the hammers, the physical shift to the right only engages 1 or 2 strings. This results in a softer output from the acoustic piano. As the same result is easily obtained by MIDI’s implementation of the so called “Soft pedal”... The MODX does not do cc67 Soft Pedal, automatically, but it is an extremely programmable Synthesizer so you can program a FS to be a soft pedal. Here’s how:

You can program an optional Foot Switch that will lower the volume.

The MODX can recreate this via programming the Assignable Foot Switch to apply a negative Part Volume... and, if you prefer, you can have it close the Filter Cutoff a bit to simulate a slightly darker tone (to taste). A simple FC4/5 type Foot Switch (Tip-Sleeve) is needed.

To set the function of the Foot Switch... press [UTILITY] > “Settings” > “MIDI I/O” > Set the Assign FS = cc67
Then within the Piano Performance setup a Control Assignment that has the FS (Source) and Part Volume (Destination) engaged to reduce the output when engaged.

Let’s use the “CFX Stage” as an example (this is a Single Part Piano).
Press [EDIT]
Select Part 1
Touch “Part Settings” > “General”
Move the cursor to highlight the Part’s “Volume” parameter.

When the cursor highlights a parameter that is controllable, the [CONTROL ASSIGN] button will glow
Press [CONTROL ASSIGN]
You arrive at a screen that reports you have selected “Part 1 Volume” and to engage the controller you wish to assign.
Step on the FC5 attached to the Assign FS jack

You will be taken to the Part’s Control Assign screen.
Leave the Curve set to “Standard”
Leave the Polarity set to “Uni”
Change the Ratio to a negative value, representing the amount you want to turn down the Part Volume... for example, “-9” works nice.
Leave Param 1 set to “5”

Press [STORE]
Give your new Performance a unique name and store it to the User Bank.

You can do the same for Multi Part pianos by simply editing each of the Parts, as necessary.
