Is it possible to control the on/off of the drum patterns in a performance?

Currently I'm using the button just above the *rhythm pattern* button on the keyboard. While this stops the drum pattern from playing, when I touch the keyboard again, it triggers the drums on again. Would like to play with drums off.

Yes.
Press [UTILITY]
Touch “Settings” > “MIDI I/O” > Set “FS Assign” (Foot Switch Assign) = ARP ON/OFF

You will need to plug an FC4/FC5 momentary Foot Switch into the Assignable Foot Switch jack on the MODX back panel.
This will operate the [ARP ON/OFF] button on the left front panel just above the OCT buttons.

If you do not have a FS, just manually turn [ARP ON/OFF] = Off

While the [STOP] button also stops the Arpeggios, as you notice as soon as touch the keyboard the drum Arps being. Arpeggios are always triggered by pressing a Key on the keyboard.

We should mention when you turn the ARP ON/OFF = OFF, the drums are now a resident of the Performance like every other Part, and unless you’ve activated the “Arp Play Only” parameter, you will hear drum sounds under each key you strike:

Press [EDIT]
Select the Drum Kit Part
“Part x - Common” appears in blue in the lower left corner
Touch “Arpeggio” > “Common” > Set “Arp Play Only” = On

EXTRA CREDIT:
Since Arpeggios are always started by playing a Key, turning the Main Arp On/Off to Off defeats the Arpeggiators entirely, the Master Switch means none of the Arpeggios will play... you can actually be more specific than that... among the more than 10,000 Arpeggios are what are called Mute phrases... for example, instructing the drums to play “Mute 4/4” is like telling the drummer to ‘rest’.

The significance of this “Mute 4/4” Arp Phrase is it is a Rest. A musical rest is different from turning the Arpeggiators Off... the rest means that the time signature count is respected, moving to another Arp Select phrase will cause that next phrase to play without having to trigger a Key. If the next Arp Select contains a regular drum pattern phrase it will simply begin playing without you having to trigger another note (as you would need to do if you use OFF to stop an Arpeggio).
