This is more of a sound design and synthesis question than a a direct MODX question. I wanted to recreate the Enigma or Peter Gabriel Sledgehammer shakuhachi as a performance on the MODX. If someone hasn't heard this, here is an example of what I am looking for at 1:15 here
I searched this forum and I see that someone had shared this on Montage, but it was removed. I also see some Montage owners have created this and have Youtube videos of the same like this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6K163YUZNE .
I was wondering how to go about creating one of my own on the MODX. It sounds to me like it's a shakuhachi sample with a pitich envelope that causes the articulation effects. Can someone give any pointers on this?
Emulator Vintage Pack for MODX
Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R
Thanks Jason. I think you are suggesting I buy the pack rather than build it myself, so I guess that it takes a lot of effort to do this 😀
Is this the pack - https://www.synthonia.com/marketplace/yamaha-montage-emulator-vintage-pack-detail?showall=1?
I cant figure out the European notation, but I hope it is 15 Euros and not 1,500 Euros!
You can build it yourself. I did a search for a sample and was able to find one. I didn't see if it was well formed (clipped correctly, good levels, etc). MODX doesn't have sampling features so you need to prepare the audio offline before loading the audio file. I use public domain tools to do this - it isn't difficult. The public domain utilities also allow for defining loop points that are respected by MODX. That said - this should probably be handled as a one-shot non looped sample.
Although for very early firmware (Montage) the following shows what's involved:
