I have two songs stored on the modx: one in position one and one in position two
When I save a midi file it takes the name of the first song and there's no way to save the song i position nr. 2
I reset the machine
I load the midi file I saved and I find only the first song, not the second.
How to save the second, third, fourth,... song? And how to load them?

Another problem with loading patterns (I've updated to v 2.5)
In content-Load I can load Pattern&Perf and Pattern type file
But I can't save a pattern in any file
The only way seems to be saving a backup file and recover everything after the reset
Or convert a patter to a chain, save it as a song, load the song (as long as it's in the first memry location) and then get phrases from it into a new patter...
Is really so complicated?
Is there an easier way?

Last question: is there a way to copy pattern 6 into pattern 7?

Thanks
Luigi

My bet is the answers to your questions can be found in the manuals:

Save song as .mid: Reference Manual page 60

Save Pattern/Scene as .mid: Supplementary Manual page 31.

On copying patterns from 6 to 7...

Not an easy way... but:

You can copy each "track" (which is actually a "Part", thanks Yamaha) from any pattern to any other pattern. So if your pattern has 8 Scenes, you'll have to perform the operation 8 times to copy the entire pattern from Pattern 6 to Pattern 7, and be careful to place each in the correct Scene, as this doesn't auto-fill in a way that's helpful.

EDIT

Just tried this. There's an ALL option for "tracks" AND for Scenes.

Goto Pattern Sequencer home screen, select Jobs (on the right), select Tracks, Copy: then pick the Pattern Number and select All and All for Track and Scene, then set the destination Pattern number to copy to. And hit the "DO IT" button.

---------------

Luigi, on a full Pattern Sequencer and copying patterns in and out... I've recently come across this little nightmare, too... as daughter has filled the Pattern Sequencer, using all 128 of them for various drafts of ideas and experiments.

It's laborious and infuriating to export them as .mid files, and even weirder when ingesting them into a DAW, and seemingly impossible to easily bring them back into the Pattern Sequencer if she ever wants to bring back in one of the exported Patterns.

The Pattern Sequencer was clearly a rushed job.

"It's laborious and infuriating to export them as .mid files"

Every pattern / scene is a 16 track MIDI recording that can be saved with just a couple of taps ... I fail to see what's laborious about that? I mean ... how else would you have liked to save it?

To import a .mid file into a DAW with most DAW's is a matter of click and drag from the file explorer onto a DAW MIDI track.

The first thing to understand about a Song in the MODX: When you Record a Song, it is automatically stored in the MODX’s dedicated “Song” Folder. This folder can contain 128 Song titles. You do not have to do anything - this is automatic.

Press [UTILITY] > “Contents” > “Data Utility” > Here you will find your internal memory “Song” Folder.
There is also a “Performance” Folder which contains your current User Bank of Performance programs.
You can establish a link between the Performance you used and the Song data you recorded, so that whenever you recall the Song title it will automatically recall the correct Performance.

This is accomplished on the “Play/Rec” > “MIDI” screen by tapping the “Store Song&Perf” and creating a literal (blue) link between the Song title and the current Performance. Once that link is made (blue) whenever you recall the Song title, the linked Performance will be recalled.

You can, if you wish, additionally, SAVE a copy of each of your Songs as a .mid file (recommended for long term storage) to a USB stick or you can drag and drop a copy from the Song Folder directly to your computer via a USB connection using MODX CONNECT. This will create a copy of the data on your computer.

Data contained in the Internal Memory Song and Pattern folders will remain there until you manually remove it (Delete) or you entirely initialize your MODX. (In other words, the .mid file you are creating is a long term storage copy. The original remains in your MODX. You only ever need to use that .mid file in an emergency - like you initialized your entire MODX and forgot to make a BACKUP File.

You may need that .mid file to load into your favorite DAW software — the MODX is designed to quickly and easily record its own Multi Part, Multi Arpeggio Performances — then you can transfer the data to your DAW as quick as opening that file.

As long as the original remains in memory, there is never a need to LOAD the .mid file from an external storage device. Simply LOAD it from the appropriate Folder.

Any .mid file you load from a USB stick will join the sequence data in the Folder. They only need to be loaded from the external device once. They, too, will remain in your Song or Pattern Folder until you manually delete them or you initialize your entire MODX.

Another problem with loading patterns (I've updated to v 2.5)
In content-Load I can load Pattern&Perf and Pattern type file
But I can't save a pattern in any file

Or convert a patter to a chain, save it as a song, load the song (as long as it's in the first memry location) and then get phrases from it into a new patter...

When you LOAD a “Pattern&Perf”, you are recalling the Pattern from the “Pattern” Folder and the linked Performance from the “Performance” Folder.

You cannot LOAD a “Pattern&Perf” from a USB stick. This is not just semantics.

You can LOAD a .mid File either to an empty Song, 001-128 or an empty Pattern, 001-128 and Scene, 1-8 within the selected Pattern.

A Pattern Scene can be from 1 to 256 measures in length, you will only find it inconvenient(sic) when you are using the Pattern Scenes to construct smaller units of music (1 bar Fill-Ins, 4 bar vamps, 8 measure chorus, etc). Just recognize that Pattern Scene can be 256 measures in length and that each Scene is, indeed, a separate entity — and quite naturally is going to require its own File.

Each Pattern Scene, 1-8, is a separate entity but is related to its neighbors when appended or chained with them into a finished linear structure.

If you don’t want to save 8 separate .mid files, then, if the data is worth saving, create a simple CHAIN where the Scenes play one after another.

CONCEPT: A Pattern Scene is a Song Construction Tool... each Scene is one of eight different “floor plans” in a prefabricated building construction kit... but recognize they are still separate floor plans in the same building... you simply have not decided how many of each you are going to use, in what order you will use them, nor have you decided how many stories tall this building is going to be ... you’d have to agree, these are very important things to know before committing the data to a file. If your Scene has but one measure in it because it is a fill-in, or if your Scene is the entire 190 measure Allegro section of your latest symphony... it still requires its own .mid file.

If your goal is to access your Pattern (there are 128 Patterns) in real-time, then give it a NAME and Store the link with the Performance you used to create it. Do not depend on Numbers...

Last question: is there a way to copy pattern 6 into pattern 7?

Yes.
From your Pattern, tap the “Edit/Job” box
Tap “Track” > “Copy”
The current Pattern occupies the top “Pattern Name” box
Set “Track” = All
Set “Scene” = All
Set the bottom “Pattern Name” to the target Pattern destination
Tap “Copy Track” to execute
