My apologies if I missed a thread with this information, but I have been struggling to find info on this online, Here's my scenario:

When I play live, I use majority of my sounds from the MODX itself, however there is some performances that I need to midi-out to my DAW for a VST to be layered over my onboard sounds. I have created an individual performance for my VST -> enabled zone-master (set my program changes and channels), and I have my midi I/O mode on multi....This part works perfectly.  However when I switch to another performance which doesn't require the VST layer, I find MIDI is still being sent out, and the last selected VST/Program on my DAW plays. How do I disable this for all performances, yet still have it enabled on the performances I want the VST layer on?

If I remember correctly, single MIDI channel mode is defeated by turning zone master on.   So you could set the single channel MIDI I/O channel to a channel your VSTi isn't listening to.  Then only your zone enabled Performances will communicate on other channels.

Or ... You could make your VSTi respond to CH 16 which isn't used by any Presets.

Or ... You could customize all of your Performances using zones even ones that don't use the VSTi.  And set these non-VSTi Performances to avoid the VSTi's MIDI channel.

Each has its set of tradeoffs.   The first two are roughly equivalent although the second is probably less work.  The third requires you to prepare 100% of your Performances you'll ever use differently.
