Just out of curiosity… I wondered what's inside the MODX DSP-wise. We know that the Montage has two SWP70 sound processors, see the link...

So looking at what Yamaha did in the past (e.g. MOX vs. MOTIF XS), one would assume the MODX has only one SWP70. However, the MODX seems to have about 3/4 of the Montage capabilities (Polyphony 192 vs 256, Insert Effects 12+1 vs. 16+1), so that does not really fit, one would expect 1/2 .

Naively, one could think of two possibilities: 1), the two SWP70 in Montage are not used to full extend, so in fact one is sufficient to do already 3/4 of DSP, or 2), the MODX has the same two SWP70 as Montage and Yamaha decided to just cut down specs for marketing reasons in the software. (IF the latter is true, theoretically, some skilled programmers maybe could do something about it πŸ™‚ Same could be true for 1 GB memory vs. 1.75 GB Montage, because both might in fact have 4GB physical Flash).

If someone has a service manual (or has a MODX and looked inside on the mainboard), I would be interested to learn...
