Hello,
Since weeks the data wheel is running wrong, whatever the direction it turns numbers or scrolling is going both ways during few circles then it drives a little bit more precisely. The thing is I have to you the inc/dec buttons to go faster.
What can I do to fix it ?
In the past couple weeks it seems that the DATA DIAL has started acting differently than it did before. Got it.
And no matter which direction you turn the DATA DIAL (clockwise only or counter-clockwise only) - the values or scrolling you are editing goes not only in the direction you are spinning but both ways? So you start spinning clockwise expecting the value to increase only but instead you see the value increasing and decreasing? ... until it finally settles down after rotating the DATA DIAL two or so complete revolutions?
Do I have that summary correct?
If so, it seems that the rotary encoder for the DATA DIAL may be malfunctioning (as in hardware fault). I'm almost certain that backing everything up then initializing the keyboard won't fix the problem. Although you could try and see. That's a common level-set kind of "sledge-hammer" suggestion.

Perfect summury, looking like a HW failure. Not comfortable with the complete reset, not sure what it is exaclty as well.
As long as you do a full backup I suggested you're safe.

You could also try spraying some Electrical Contact Cleaner into the crack at the side of the jogger wheel. Then turning the wheel for a few spins.
Contact Cleaner is just Isopropyl Alcohol, so it evaporates quickly and leaves no residue. Sometimes the problem is just a build up of dust fouling the sensors.
It's a quick win. But it's your choice.
