Loading a sub-set of a larger Montage User set?

Is it possible to load a selection of performances from a larger Montage User File, without loading the whole set?

As you know Montage has a larger RAM so although User performances could be used by MODX, the problem is that if the Montage User Set is larger than 1 GB, it can not be loaded into MODX. Is there a way of loading just a "sub-set" of performances from a larger User set?

Thanks,
D

Thanks for the question...

There is no way to do so from an already prepared MONTAGE .X7U User File.

What you can do is use the MONTAGE User Bank or the John Melas “MONTAGE Waveform Editor” to prepare a file that will fit in the MODX.

If your .X7U File contains more than 1GB of custom Waveform data, that will not fit in your MODX...
... and you are working with a MONTAGE, load your .X7U file into the MONTAGE — you can review and manage the USER data by navigating to [UTILITY] > “Contents” > “Data Utility”. Delete the Waveforms that would cause the MODX to report full... create a new (smaller) File. You would manually have to delete the affected Performances.

... if you are working with the Melas Waveform Editor, remove the data you don’t need/want and create a new smaller file. The Editor will search for and eliminate ‘orphaned’ data.

If custom Waveforms are not involved (at all), the MONTAGE file will fit in the MODX

Thanks for clarification Bad M. Much appreciated.

It seems that the reason the Montage file is exceeding 1GB is that my friend who is trying to send me his User Set is using a Backup option when saving his data.
But apparently, if he uses "User Data" option instead, the saved file contains only performance settings, not the waveforms, which is strange.
I thought that the .X8U file would include the multisamples also?

Again, what is in the User Bank will be listed in the [UTILITY] > “Contents” > “Data Utility”

When he saves as a Library File only the data in the Folders: ARP, Live Set, Motion Seq, Waveforms, and Performances are written... to that Library File.

Thanks BadMister,

My friend tried both, saving his Montage data as a USER and LIBRARY file, and in both cases he ended up with files without actual waveforms. In the past he was using only Backup option when sharing his data, and that's why it worked on other Montage keys. But then again, he ended up with a Backup file of 1.2 GB, which I can not load into my MODX.

Does Montage creates a separate file with waveforms, or all the waveforms should be exported either in .X7U or .X7L files?

Thanks,
D.

That’s right! That’s exactly what will happen! If he doesn’t create a new Bank.

In order for him to transfer data to your MODX, he will need to learn how to use the “Library Import” feature!
He will need to create a NEW set of data (less than 1GB) — this requires creating a new set of data in his USER BANK.
