Hi again.
When I connect via Midi (in and out) my new MODX with my Roland MX-1 mixer, I listen a "feedbacked" sound in the MODX. Like a chorus effect. Not only through the mixer, in the phones output of the MODX itself too.
Tryed the same operation between MX-1 and my Nord Lead A1 and everything normal.
Is an midi adjustment in the MODX that I'm missing?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry we do not do support for the Roland MX-1 Mixer or the Nord Lead here.
We can help you with the MODX... What is the purpose of the MIDI connection between the Keyboard and the Mixer?
What is the MIDI I/O Mode set to on the MODX? In other words, how many channels are you transmitting on via this connection?
The MODX (unlike perhaps your other keyboard) if in MIDI I/O Mode = MULTI will transmit/receive on multiple channels, I’m not clear on what the purpose of the MIDI connection to a mixer is going to do... please explain what the goal is...
I'm using the MX-1 as usb interface because I do not want to spoil the MODX screen (my pc is always on) Other reason are the problems I'm having with USB noise and drivers.
In order to sequence de MODX in Reaper, it must be connected via midi with the audio interface.
The “USB noise” is a ground problem in your system. Fix the ground issue the high pitched zinging noise will disappear.
I don’t understand what the MODX screen reference means... “spoil the MODX screen” ... please explain, I understand the words but not what is being said. How does using the screen spoil the screen?
You are perhaps making decisions for all the wrong reasons.
The noise is ground noise - you should fix that
The “drivers”... there is only one driver, it’s called a driver because, like in a car there will be only one driver per vehicle. (No backseat drivers allowed). You want the “Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver”
In other words, don’t work ‘around’ your issues, confront them and fix them, each... that way you can work normally. The ground noise is likely due to the interconnect of multiple devices. It manifests itself as a high pitched zinging sound that follows the activity of your computer’s CPU (give it a task and listen closely, the pitch of the noises follows your computer’s activity) this can occur while the computer is connected via USB to a device acting as an audio interface.
The MODX has its own audio and MIDI interface, why not use them?
Now, don’t misunderstand me, you can use whatever you like, but I can’t help you with any specifics setting up your Roland product setup. It is not clear to me the purpose of the connection to the mixer via MIDI.
I suggest solving the “USB noise” (ground issue, first). Then you can relax and make proper decisions.
From the report it sounds to me more like a problem with MIDI going out and in again resulting in duplicate sounds. I might be misunderstanding this.
If I am right, please switch off the local control in Utilities->MIDI (or so). If that solves it you have a MIDI feedback loop and need to figure out how to prevent the mixer from repeating signals at the MIDI output which are received in the input.

This has solved the problem of feedback. Local Control to Off!!! Thank you very much Stefan! 🙂
This is very important for me, since I can now edit the MODX in Reaper thorugh the MX-1 midi ports. I have not been able to install the MODX driver correctly. Nor deactivating the digital signature as explained to me by Jason.
@ Bad Mister (my Yamaha hero, forgive me my bad English please) Regarding de USB noise, I'm still investigating. It only occurs when the MX-1 and MODX are simultaneously connected to the PC usb port / ports. I have tried to use other sockets, different USB cables, so far without result. The MODX only don´t makes noise. These two machines hate each other.
In the other thread (PC Connection one) you explain the USB-related noise but did not include there was another device in the mix (MX-1).
In that thread, my approach was to attack this as a "ground loop" issue - which is why I asked about your PC (if it was a laptop with no earth ground reference - or other battery-powered device). Also similar suggestions about where power is plugged in suggesting all devices share the same power strip in order to have a common ground.
I'm not sure how, regionally, power works in your area. Here sometimes ground is defeated because grounded power receptacles are not available. This would not be advised. Some intentionally remove the ground connection ("ground lift" ) to solve noise issues (again, not recommended - but ... if it works, be careful).
And finally, ground termination between the cable and device(s) was pointed out. You should be using a shielded USB cable. This USB shield has options on how it is connected to the cable's circuit (both ends connected to the connector's shield, only one end, neither) - then the devices have different ways they terminate the shield - sometimes short to ground - sometimes open - sometimes traveling through some impedance and not directly connected to ground. And digital vs. analog vs. chassis ground.
There are many parts of any given setup where the ground path can be affected. USB cable, devices, power cables, power strips, wall connections, etc.
